I have no idea what manner of space robot warrior fighter is supposed to wear a watch like this. Now as a limited edition model with two camouflage dial options, the RSW Diving Tool watch gets even more distinct. I originally wrote about the RSW Diving Tool watch here when it first came out.A bit larger than the Bell & Ross BR01, this piece takes the military square style watch a few steps further and offers something that would seem pretty suitable as a prop in Avatar. The steel case is 46.2mm wide (16.45mm thick) and offered in a brushed finish or in PVD black. The dial background colors include camo "woodland" and camo "oceanic" in the newer pixelated camouflage style. It makes for a fun and cartoony look, especially for those who want to look at their watches and smirk.As a diving watch the piece has a nice looking dial with very legible hands. Well, after an excruciating and interminable wait – well, 6 months to be exact, my Tag is back from it’s extended holiday at the AD being serviced, spruced, and pampered. After 12 years I thought it about time to invest in extending it’s life, in return for the great service it has given me.It’s hard to explain, and I don’t know if many of you will understand, but I feel a strong attachment to this watch. I bought it while serving in Iraq in 95-96, and it has been with me through some unusual times, always working accurately, quietly doing it’s job while I tried to do mine.Anyway, the AD finally found a crystal for it, as well as the other bits & pieces it required for the service (it’s ‘only’ an ETA 2824-2 for goodness sake, how hard can it be?) and I picked it up last week.I have to say, I’m very happy with the end result. Another polishing question.
I am the happy owner of a Speedmaster Pro purchased in the late 70's. It's had four cleanings in that time, no repairs and NEVER been polished.The patina of the hands and dial face is very nice imo and the lume surprisingly shines brighter than my 1997 Rolex Sub.Now the time has come for a major overhaul and since the case has 30+ years of wear and tear I am tempted to have it cleaned up. My watch man is very established, has both Omega and Rolex accounts with top of the line refinishing machines and assures me metal loss will be microscopic and minimal.Inspite of usually being a rather decisive person I'm on the fence with this one. Resale is not an issue since I plan to pass this timepiece on to my son.Given that I'm pleased with the patina under the crystal and have no desire to replace the dial or hands, will a polish bringing it close to new status look odd ?I've been reading all the pros and cons over the years and would appreciate some personal opinions.
