Ulysse Nardin has announced that its CEO, Rolf W. Schnyder, unexpectedly passed away on April 14 after a short illness. Because a succession plan was already in place, current members of management will continue to operate the company without interruption, continuing in the spirit of Rolf W. Schnyder¡¯s vision. ¡°With the passing of Rolf W. Schnyder, the watchmaking industry has lost one of its greatest visionaries, while Ulysse Nardin has lost an important source of innovation for the firm. We are profoundly moved and distraught at this sudden loss. Our full sympathies are with his wife and his three children, to whom we would like to express our sincere condolences,¡± said Susanne Hurni, press officer and head of media relations at Ulysse Nardin.Rolf W. Schnyder had acquired the family firm Ulysse Nardin in 1983, and since that time held the role of president and CEO at the helm of the manufacturer with its wealth of tradition. Back into the search mode. Two watches I like, are the Longines Master Collection L2.673.4.78.3 and the RW Maestro Phase de Lune Semainier Screen Shot 2013-06-29 at 9.03.46 PM.jpgScreen Shot 2013-06-29 at 9.04.01 PM.jpgVisually, I like the RW a bit better, because I simply don't have any great use for a chronograph. The RW simply looks cleaner. Some neat features of the RW are the pushers built into the case and that not only is the month displayed, but it is ticked off by weeks. With that being said, I can't seem to find what movement RW uses in this watch. I'm assuming it is an ETA, but not sure. Some negatives I've found are that the dial is stamped and the blue hands are painted. But, in my mind, I know the Longines is probably the better watch, mechanically. I'm not sure what ETA movement is in it, but it does have a 46 hour reserve. So anyway, your 2¡é is appreciated.By the way, I found two local AD's who carry these watches and the Longines is only $200 more than the RW at the
27 votes cast: (11) for the band at 6, (16) for the band at 12.At first I thought the band at 6 would have been the choice, as the bar-links kind of match the markers and hands, but as I looked at them more, I started to prefer the tiger-stripe one myself. Heres the shot of the contenders for round 1, the band at 6 is OUT of the running.I considered a rubber dive-type strap with this watch, but ruled it out as this isn't a water resistant watch, so thought it would be sort of technically incorrect.I know we have a lot of strap-guys here, so we'll do a "6 or 12?" with straps soon. So here's round 2...6 or 12?
