One of the main reasons I am an avid watch collector is I appreciate the skill, craft, imagination and intensive labour that is required to create a high-end, accurate and reliable mechanical movement. Everywhere you look today our portable gadgets, of which wrist watches can be considered, are powered by batteries. I like the fact that the mechanical watch movement possesses the ability to power itself (or is hand wound) by utilising the same fundamental components, power source and technology of 400 years ago. The more complications a mechanical movement has the better. Although, the more the complications the movement has the pricier, is sadly true. Exponentially true in fact. Therefore, I will happily concede that there are those people that do not care about such romanticisms. They want a watch to do a job. They are willing to pay for quality and reliability but if something else can offer the same functions with better accuracy, for less, then all the better. This is one reason why
Greetings TRF,Just wanted to share pictures of the new band I got for my Audemars Piguet. The other one I had was a cheaper one and although I don't usually pay too much for my bands it was getting worn out rather quickly and was a tad thick for that watch. Here's what I found instead. It's one of my first flip over deployant clasps, I usually buy bands that come with butterfly ones and was always looking for a different type. I sure like the feeling and the look of it! It's not an expensive band but I quite like the grain on it, I think it gives the watch a nice look....And obviously, a new band equals a new wrist shot! Thank you for watching, feel free to comment.
Hey guys,Obviously, there is a huge shortage of Rolex watches with huge waiting lists for the Daytona and now the new PepsiC SS. With these huge waiting lists, I'm curious to know how many of you are willing to pay over MSRP for these watches via a grey market dealer? and if so how much over MSRP?
Hi folks,My 1946 Oyster Air King was recently rebuilt and ran great! (Thanks Tommy)A few months later, the innards were loose (likely suffered some vibration in transit back to me). A local shop tightened everything and tuned it up and it was good again. Now (6 months later), the second hand (in sub-second dial) is catching on the hour hand at about 6:40. I recorded a video, but can't post a link as I have not posted enough times in the forums...I am starting to think that I am not supposed to wear this thing daily...Do you wear your vintage Rolex daily?Thoughts?
