New F.P. Journe Book and Exhibit Celebrate Historic Gunmetal Watches
Most of the watches that Francois-Paul Journe produces for his independent brand are anything but “proletarian:” most come in gold or platinum cases and have movement parts made of 18k rose gold. However, Journe’s newest publishing project, “Steel Time,” celebrates the classic burnished steel “gunmetal” watches of the mid- to late 19th century and how they made timepieces accessible to the masses. “Steel Time” is written by vintage-watch experts Jean Claude Sabrier and Georges Rigot. Journe, who contributes the preface, has assembled what he says is the world’s largest collection of gunmetal watches (some of which he acquired from Sabrier, another collector of vintage steel timepieces) ¡ª a total of 200, all of which are covered in the tome’s 300 pages and are on display throughout the summer at the Forbes Galleries, on New York City’s Fifth Avenue. My crazy obsession with ticking sounds now
As my friend came over to my place over the weekend and sat down at my table where my watches and watchmaking take place, she told me the ticking sound of my watches reminds her of a professional working place in a movie. It is very calming and helps one to focus.I am so proud of that, which re-confirms why I love mechanical watches so much now. The main ticking sound is coming from my recent self-made 6497 watch which looks rather less professional, but nevertheless, I absolutely love it.I have made a short video clip at 6am in the morning as it is quiet and so you can really hear the ticking. I am so in love with the sound!! Really totally smitten and addicted to it. Okay, I am such an idiot..hahaha...Perhaps some of you can share this addiction with me? Long time Rolex Loyalist gets first Breitling!
Still love Rolex, but thought I would try some variety! Got this beauty from the MAN DavidSW. I'm loving it. Fit and finish is fantastic, this is going into my regular rotation. I'm a complete Breitling noob. Are the chronographs supposed to be moving all the time?

Should I buy 5070G?
I have 5980, 15202, 16710, 2xspeedmaster and Daytona is coming.I'm looking for my first leather strap chronograph from Patek. I really like 5070G but the price is more than double from the list price in 2003. It's also very hard to find a mint condition 5070G.Do you think it's still worth to buy 5070G or should I save more and buy new 5270G?
