In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Roland G. Murphy (RGM): I am the man and watchmaker behind RGM Watch.ABTW: What was your first grail watch?RGM: It was a Patek 3970 back in the 1980s. I did get one used that needed work, I repaired it and sold it back in the early 90's.ABTW: Was there ever a time in your life when you could afford it?RGM: Yea, in the early 1990s.ABTW: What did you like so much about the watch?RGM: The complications and the classic look.ABTW: Did you ever get it?RGM: For a while, and then sold it.Editor's Note: Roland also referenced their older RGM 103R model, which he believes took the 3970 design and made it even grander.[Update: July 8, 2014 - While we value the quality of their product, in light of recent events, watches-dealer
A lot of the time people ask me for advice on buying a watch. Be it for themselves, a loved one, or maybe even a child. I do my best to counsel the, but it is hard to instill the passion I have for watches to someone who is just getting their feet wet in the area of horological enthusiasm. The best approach is to get a watch that is affordable, and allows you to appreciate the complexities and refinement of traditional watch making. The retail on a watch like this is $600-$700. This particular model can be had for $500 or less (with some bargaining) on eBay right now. So only one lucky person will get to have this specific watch.Nivrel is a line that offers sub-$1000 watches to ones that in the many thousands. This means they have the know how to create s
I saw a video on youtube, regarding a guy reviewing his ploprof...And somebody commented that his, runs +1 per week!!!Is 8500 really that accurate!!!!????

For those of you who are interested in full sets, how important is the green hang tag? You come across the perfect watch. It has the warranty papers. The outer and inner box. All the manuals are present. The Red/green chronometer tag is included. But wait... no green tag...I¡¯d say half the ¡°full sets¡± I¡¯ve purchased used over the years came without the green tag. I¡¯ve heard some AD¡¯s keep these although I¡¯ve never had one keep it when I¡¯ve bought new. So would you pass on a watch because of a missing green tag? I¡¯m specifically asking the opinion of the folks who look for the full set. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
