Cartier WJTA0005 wrist watches news:
I believe I have a 1939 'ish Elgin 2257 with a 15 jewel, 18/0 movement here. Case is 10KRGP. I picked this up at a flea market recently and just had it put in working order, mainspring was broken. I really liked etched case detail on the left and right. The dial is very minty and overall I felt the watch was very striking. Only a slight wear line on the top and bottom high point on the face. But, not distracting. Sold new for $37.50 with a strap and $39.75 with a gold filled band.I found an ad showing the model on an Elgin site online. Info for this era of Elgin seems to be scarce except in old ad art. I was very pleased to find something. This brings me to a couple of questions. First, did Elgin always use Veritas metal backs on some of their line, was this their means to hit a lower market price than some of their competition? Also, when did rolled gold plating first make it's appearance? I see alot of gold filled in other lines up into the end of the '40's.
Can anyone help me with the Canadian retail values of the PAM 005 and 111?

I sent my watch out to the Omega repair facility in Secaucus,NJ. I was quoted a price of $ 2000 for a complete resoration. The band was $700 plus by itself. Is anyone aware of anyone who has the capacity to repair and restore other than a Omega facility?? Or should I just buy a new one??They stated they would be replacing the following: 1 The luminous material on the hands is flaking 2 The hands are damaged 3 Movement shows sins of water damage 4 One or more of the pushers are damaged and detached 5 One or more of the perminate links in the bracelet are missing. and must be replaced 6 Clasp is damaged 7 Movement is rusted
D-Blue or SD50, assuming kept stickers on and in the safe. I'm sure I have the willpower to not wear either, just wondering. Is there another watch that would be better to do this with?
