Chopard 168457-3005 wrist watches news:
The following 145.022 which was described as having originated from 1970 but which actually was a 1974 vintage went last week on that place by the sea in the UK for $3100. Now that is not far from the MSRP of a brand new 3570.50.
So I've been looking for 1940s-1960s watches with 3/4" lug spacing, no divers, and they've been tough to find.Took a flyer on a rough Benrus in rose gold-fill because I wanted the little calendar off the band that was on it. Got the watch yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised that it takes a 3/4" strap!I was not pleasantly surprised by the condition, tho...pretty bad off, very well-used, and just filthy! Here are pics from the listing:No, it wasn't pretty. This was one of those watches that was worn and never, ever wiped clean...not pleasant.First the bracelet came off and was into the bath.Next the horsehair brush knocked off most of the loose dirt before opening the case.Popped the caseback off, and the dial was even worse under the very scuffed crystal: very brown and speckled.Removed the movement, and cleaned the case and caseback, set aside to dry in the warm California sun (Ramones, yeah!).Now, I don't suggest this on a watch that is higher-end, but this one was so far gone, and
I can only imagine the expressions on the faces of the Bell and Ross design team as they were given the multiple criteria for the BR02.¡°Lads and Lasses, we want a new divers watch. It must reflect our philosophy of peerless legibility in all conditions, it must be water resistant to 1000m and 500m for the chronograph version, it must have a helium escape valve and screw down crown and pushers, ¡°¡°OK, sounds easy enough¡±¡°Oh aye, and it must be a completely brand new design to the genre that eludes to assured strength and yet must be beautiful to behold at the same time. Think of a design that conjures thoughts of sub aqua adventures for the wearer. ¡±¡°Err, alright. Anything else?¡±¡°Yes, it must not be round. Do not make it generic. Make me proud and make the other manufacturers jealous¡±If this hypothetical conversation did take place then I¡¯m sure that the designers are very proud of their achievements, given the givens above. I can only applaud their innovation and creativity. Most people
