Franck Muller Franck Muller 19849 wrist watches news:
Most watches companies do not make their own movements. Quality watch makers buy their movements from mostly ETA, the Swatch Group owner mega movement maker. In 2010 however, ETA will stop selling its movements to outside companies. It will continue to provide movements for it's house brands, of which there are several. ETA is part of the Swatch Group which makes a number of brands as seen in the link. When ETA stops providing movements to out-side brands, they will have to go elsewhere for movements.Sellita is a growing movement maker in Switzerland, but has had a bit of a copycat history. They mostly copied ETA movements. Can they do this? Well, probably, at least in the US. Most ETA movements have been around for a while and in the US Patents last for 20 years only. Because movements are machines, they only intellectual property protection they would have is a patent, and presumably the European patent laws are similar to those of the US. Take the ETA 2824-2 movement, which has been
Watches > Latest News March 2011 VILLERET QUANTI¨¨ME ANNUEL GMTThis year, Blancpain is presenting its first Annual Calendar combined with the GMT function – an original association of these two complications enriching the Villeret collection and providing further proof of the innovative spirit cultivated by the Manufacture from Le Brassus. The Villeret Annual Calendar GMT is equipped with the new Calibre 6054F developed by Blancpain’s R&D teams. This self-winding movement requires just one date adjustment per year, at the transition from February to March. For all other months, the watch itself moves on from the 30th or the 31st to the first day of the following month. It also has a small 24-hour hand in a subdial at 8 o’clock, which serves as a reference time. The GMT function is provided by the central hour hand of the watch, which is linked to the date. The generously sized date apertures are arranged in such a way as to ensure optimal readability. This new m
I have a vintage lady's watch of an obscure brand called Fleetwood (found nothing on it). On the dial it says Permaspring. Any idea what that means? Sometimes, but not always, the watch seems to wind indefinitely and I though it might represent an automatic but after 26 hours or so it started to slow down. I have not had it serviced and it's probably not working optimally. It's a watch I found at a bazaar and I'm sure it needs cleaning but in the meantime, it is keeping perfect time. I did find some references to watches with Permaspring on the internet but no explanation of what it means.TIA for any info on this term.
