New to vintage watches and just bought a Voumard
This is not intended to be a cross post, I posted the same pictures in the American forum asking about the Gruen and here I want to know about the Voumard. Since there isn't a Vintage forum nor a Swiss forum, I thought this might be the best place. Feel free to move this thread if there is somewhere better.I am completely new to vintage watches and decided I wanted to buy some inexpensive watches to open and possibly work on, so I just bought these two on sale at a local antique market.100_2453.jpg100_2457.jpgI want to make sure that I didn't stumble upon a diamond in the rough. (I don't want to open something too valuable). Can anyone tell me about the Voumard in these pictures? The case looks great and it does move, but it may need a little love and grease. Since I had to return the FC, I went with an Oris Big Crown
I spent a good part of the day at the mall, looking at watches, then of course the nets, once home. Just returned from a few days diving in Siladen, Indonesia with my recently acquired M17393. I did not take it off for almost the entire trip (Indonesia airport security insisted). It was successfully subjected to several of the is it safe scenarios: sleeping, showering, sand and sweat on the beach, drinking alcohol, and 28m maximum depth underwater. Lume is long lasting and the dial is easy to read. So far, the DLC coated case and strap buckle are resisting scratches. Accuracy is consistent at +4 seconds per day. Overall, a great travel/adventure/sports watch!

Patek Philippe and Rolex comparison
I've heard of people ask about how Rolex can justify the prices they charge.Personally, I really do not think they're overpriced. Sure, you pay for the brand name (which includes marketing, and I read somewhere that Rolex have the biggest marketing budget by far).But a SS Daytona has a retail of around $9,000 compared to say, a Tag Heuer GC around $5,000 (depending on model). IMO the extra $4,000 odd is justified given the in-house movement, bigger brand name etc (some might disagree of course)What about Patek Philippe? How come their watches, even without date, can cost more than any watch Rolex make?I'm not saying Patek Philippe watches are overpriced, but just want to know how a PP justifies that extra money spent. And it's because I plan to buy a Patek Philippe next.Is the way they make watches more labour intensive?Do they use better materials?Or do they just charge more for exclusivity and brand name?
