I've been looking to acquire a Germany-made watch for some time now. Perhaps the reputation German engineers (and clockmakers) have for superior craftsmanship, aesthetic conservatism, and attention to functionality and fine detail over extravagance has become somewhat stereotypical and clich¨¦d. One can argue, however, that this reputation has been well-earned over time more by it's basis in example-after-example, than in stereotype. Which brings me here.Where to begin? There are so many aesthetically pleasing German watch manufacturers. A. Lange & S?hne, Glash¨¹tte Original, and M¨¹hle-Glash¨¹tte Instruments are some of the more visible and historic brands. The first two are way above my pay-grade to afford, and I have been looking very hard at the M¨¹hle-Glash¨¹tte line- more than one of which is definitely on the short list of my future purchases. But, as I have found out, these are just a few of the German brand offerings out there, many of which are affordable to the "average" watch
In addition to my sea urchin injury, there was more 'blow back' from my Maui/Oahu vacation. I picked up a couple new horological wonders while running around. One of them just arrived today. It had to go to California to be serviced and overhauled first. Here are some pics of that one:I've always wanted this particular watch because I love the straight-forward look and comfort of the Date/Just, but I wanted just a little more bling than the standard plain applied indicies model. I think this watch is a good example of the use of diamonds on a man's watch. The other reason I wanted this one was because I have a fake model that I bought in NYC for $30 bucks - seen here:It is wonderful to compare them to get a real insight into the fake realm. I originally got the fake watch for my son to wear - plus I was just curious. He is from the generation that doesn't think it needs a watch. But he liked the idea of 'Rolex' to impress his friends. Yes, I faked him out, but my heart was in t
I tried on an RO for the first time today and was strongly considering this piece for purchase. Absolutely stunning watch that pictures don¡¯t do justice to. But the bracelet pulled my arm hair badly. The boutique resized it for me twice to try and it still pulled noticeably even after we got the sizing right. I had red marks on my arm from where the bracelet tried unsuccessfully to tweeze my arm hair after wearing it for a only a few minutes. Does this ever improve? I¡¯d be especially curious to hear from some of my fellow hairy guys. At this point I feel like I have to take it off my list unless there¡¯s a) a secret to getting it to stop pulling b) the hair pulling improves dramatically over time. I trim my arm hair every 3-4 months and it¡¯s at its shortest point right now; I can only imagine the pulling would be worse when I¡¯m later in my hair growth cycle. Appreciate any thoughts, advice, etc. Thanks!
Breitling has opened their new store at Mall at Millenia in Orlando, FL. I was fortunate enough to be part of the VIP event last night and of course supported my B01. First pic is of John at the event last night and second is of my son posing next to the Breitling airplane. More pics to follow....at work right now so don't have all the pics with me.
