At the risk of either overstating the obvious or resorting to a bad cliche, the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 is a time machine in both senses of the word. Yes, it tells time, and quite well, but that’s not why everyone got excited when this watch was announced at Watches and Wonders in Hong Kong a couple months ago. That enthusiasm was due to the watch’s throwback good looks and perfect proportions which are inspired by a forebear in Vacheron’s deep archives. Going hands-on with it reminded me just how good a classic handwound dress chronograph can be. 1 OF 6 First, a bit of history. The Cornes de Vache (which I’ll call it from here on for the sake of brevity) is based on a watch made in very small numbers starting in 1955, simply called the ref. 6087 but nicknamed the “Cornes de Vache” due to its lugs bearing a resemblance to the horns of a cow. VIRGIN 10k Gold Plated Case for a 1927 Waltham Project ! ! !
Hey guys !I just finished up with this Waltham project so I thought that I would share my results.I bought a Waltham Trench Watch on "the swamp" a couple of weeks ago, the pictures were a bit fuzzy so I could not quite make out the serial number.But, I bought it anyway, I like to roll the dice sometimes!When it arrived the trench watch case had heavy gold fill wear spots that could not been seen in the pictures.Plus, the movement serial number did not correspond to the case time period, the case was made about 10-11 years earlier.The movement dated to 1927 and the case dated back to around 1916 - 1917.So, lots of things about this Waltham were just plain wrong!As you can imagine I stock LOTS of spare parts for Walthams (and Elgins).When we were at the NAWCC Daytona Regional back in February I bought several VIRGIN un-used cases from a guy for cheap.These cases NEVER had a movement installed in them and they even still had the ORIGINAL factory tag ! ! ! ! How waterproof is the speedy DSOTM
Had my DSOTM for 3 months now and I've read the stories of don't swim with your Speedmaster, but how waterproof is it ? I'm used to dive watches and give them a wash in the sink from time to time, can I do the same with the DSOTM ?
