Introducing The Blancpain Ocean Commitment Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback, And A New Book Celebrating The Fifty Fathoms
Coming to you live from the south of France, where I was just shown a brand new limited edition Blancpain chronograph that has a lot going for it. Its official name is the Ocean Commitment Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph, but what it is to us collectors is a limited edition take on the new Bathyscaphe chrono shown at Basel this year with an awesome new high-beat, in-house chronograph. There is a lot to like here, and on top of this new watch, Blancpain also announced a massive, 475-page chronicle of the entire history of the Fifty Fathoms, the very first modern dive watch. 2 OF 4 First, the watch. This limited run of 250 watches features a gorgeous blue dial, with blue ceramic bezel. But what is most interesting (IMHO) is that while the case looks like either brushed steel or titanium, it is neither. It is, in fact, a matte grey ceramic. Mixed results with AP Service
Well, I went to pick up my 15300 at the NYC boutique today. While I had been very happy with the fact that AP had agreed to service/pressure test my watch under warranty (which technically had expired a few weeks before i brought the watch to them) I was a little nervous about all the horror stories i had been hearing about AP service.Lo and behold, I went to pick up my watch and found a prominent scratch (albeit not very deep) right on the bezel. Obviously, I was very unhappy about this. To their credit the boutique staff took the watch back without question and will be sending it back to clearwater to be refinished/polished. They also made a point of telling me that the turnaround shouldnt be more than a week. So...am i disappointed? sure. AP should have much stricter quality control. Who exactly is handling our watches and how are there so many stories like this floating around? On the flip side i have to commend them that there were no accusations that I dinged the watch myself, or

Wearing a Patek everday
Hello,My personal goal watch is a Patek Phillipe 5960p in Platinum with the grey dial and brown strap.I currently have a Rolex Daytona as my daily watch, it's comfy and strong. It's scratched but that never bothers me as its made for handling any situation whether its formal or casual, gym or beach. After achieving(forceable future) my personal goal of getting a Supercar and Superwatch. The Supercars are meant to be used for special occasions or weekends(basically whenever the weather is great). However will the honeymoon effect with cars and watches be the same, I know if you drive a Ferrari on a daily basis it wont feel as special as an owner who reserves the car for special occasions (Bring the big guns out).If I get a 5960p would it be advisable to use on a daily basis, how is the platinum to scratches. The SS of Rolex can be polished every-now and then and will look brand new.
