Magnetism and Watches
Magnetism can change the rate on a mechanical watch. It can cause an otherwise normal watch to run fast or slow. A quick pass through a demagnetizer can be an instant cure for the problem. but how do watches get magnetized?A recent thread on a professional watchmaker¡¯s forum has discussed problems with watches during shipping. Shipped watches are sometimes returned for not performing properly and the problem has been found to be magnetism. What is it in the shipping procedure that causes this? Are they being magnetically scanned? Is it simply a pass near powerful conveyor motors that sometimes causes the problem? Most watches seem to survive the trip successfully, but some don¡¯t.Both Witschi and Greiner-Vibrograph (Swiss watch equipment manufacturers) make products that check magnetism. A watchmaker friend has recently purchased one of these testers and run some experiments. He has been able to magnetize watches with his cell phone. Taking the PM leap - Opinions welcome please
Hi All,Greetings from NYC. After having been lucky enough to own a few APs in SS and Ceramic (as well as a number of SS Rolex) I have decided to add a yellow gold chrono to the collection. I am torn between 2 models. AP RO 26320 in Yellow Gold w/ white faceorRolex Daytona 116508 Yellow Gold w/ white faceThese are both with the full bracelet. I know the predisposition on this forum it to vote AP, but I also know many of you appreciate other brands as well.Also, let's assume for this discussion that the price difference is not enough to be the deciding factor. My only concern with the AP is that perhaps it's a bit on the dressy side. (I'm mostly business casual/jeans). But it's so elegant... The Daytona seems like a versatile and rock solid piece...Any thoughts or opinions from my fellow WIS?Thank you and have a great week!Dave

Tried on my Grail today and a ND SS Sub
Just went to one of my AD¡¯s and they had the 116618LB in stock .Also had a ND SS Sub , SS Sub Date they just sold yesterday I was told . Had the Platona as well ...Last pic is my SD4K... What do y¡¯all think ? Does the PM LB Rock or what ? I¡¯m thinking my SD4K looks better than the ND Sub as far as SS goes...
