3 New Jaquet Droz Watches for China’s Year of the Horse
As Americans mark the start of 2014, China celebrates the Year of the Horse, the seventh sign in the Chinese Zodiac. To commemorate it, Jaquet Droz, a watch brand long associated with China, is releasing a series of Ateliers d’Art timepieces with artistic dials.Each of the three new Jaquet Droz watches features at least one of three highly complex artistic decorative technique on its dial: engraving, painting and grand feu enamel. In addition to the Montblanc TimeWalker ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph, Montblanc has released another chronograph as part of their 4810 Collection for 2016: The 4810 TwinFly Chronograph. Back in 2012, Montblanc released the first TwinFly and it was a major hit. This year’s TwinFly Chronograph features the flyback chronograph function, dual-time and 24-hour indication. 1 OF 2 The watch is rather large and is in a 43 mm steel case with rectangular chronograph pushers flanking the crown. The dial is silvered guilloché with applied red gold plated Roman numerals. The vertical subsidiary dials display the 24-hour indication (with a small world globe on the top) and the date on the bottom. Why should you service your watch?
Well, I'm sure most of us know why that is to begin with, but it doesn't hurt to talk it over once in a while. Watches are have very precise movements with tight tolerances, and just like any moving mechanical object, it should have proper lubrication and be free of any debris. Why do you think your car has a few liters of oil and a filter?Ever since I got this watch it had very hard hand winding. Something I thought to be very strange but never got around to get it looked at since I don't wear it TOO often. After the ordeal with the Grand Seiko, I decided to have this one serviced as well, and see if we could figure out what was wrong. I later realized that the watch didn't have the infamous 7750 wobble (well it did have a bit, but not the "normal"), something was definitely up!I took the watch apart (hands, dial, case) and took the movement to Omar (my watchmaker) for service. Nautilus 5712 vs Calatrava 5227G
Hi, newbie here and to watches in general. I only got one watch, a Rolex Datejust 41, which I chose over a Submariner at the time I bought it, and now to which I am fond of. Now here goes the time to consider what I'm gonna buy myself next. I went to a local AD without knowing anything about PP and fell in love with the Calatrava 5227G. But then of course I went online, and almost universally people recommend the 5711. I tried to look and get on waiting lists and figured I got a better chance on the 5712 so now I'm on the waiting list for that (8-12 mos from an AD in the US)Which now puts me at asking what I should be buying - the 5227G is pure love while the 5712 is a safe choice. I'm 31yo, self-employed with my share of attending important functions and meetings, and I plan to make this watch an all-rounder, wearing it anywhere from an important meeting to strolling at the mall. I realize the 5227G is more closer to the PP brand, and somehow that is an upside for me. Any thoughts?Sen
