I think I'll go with the Accumatic A-604. I think I've only ever worn it once or twice.
A watch is an intricate machine. For any machine to function it must be supplied with energy. A mechanical watch is "fueled" by it's wearer, either by manual winding or with the motion of your wrist depending on the type of movement. The force of these actions is retained in the mainspring. The mainspring is attached to the barrel (case) it sits in on one end and hooked to the arbor (a shaft through the center of the barrel) at the other end. basic barrel configuration with arbor in the center and cutaway to show the mainspring:The mainspring coils tightly around the arbor when wound thereby storing energy. It is always trying to unwind itself to relieve tension. This causes the barrel to rotate around the arbor. The outside edge of the barrel has serrated teeth which mesh with the center pinion. I've been thinking about getting a Panerai. It will be my first and only Pam. It has to be a 3 hander with a sandwich dial. I will admit that is a classic Panerai look, and indeed it looks very good. However, I am a complication type of guy who likes rotating bezel, chrono, etc.So the question is, if you like complication in your watches, does the basic 3 handers Panerai become boring after a while???PS. I rule out chrono Pams since it just doesn't look right to me. the flyback does look very good, but is out of my price range.TIA,anthony
Hello guys and gals :)I¡¯ve been starting to think about cleaning my 2 month old two tone submariner.I was reading on the Rolex site that they recommend using ¡°soapy¡± water and a soft brush.I saw other some people recommend ¡°Wristclean.¡± I saw several members of this forum use Dawn dish soap.I also read something about using a soap that has no Ammonia in it.My question is, is there a soap that you all use that won¡¯t damage the rubber seals inside the watch and is easy to find? By this I mean something that isn¡¯t specifically made for cleaning watches like ¡°Wristclean.¡±If so, can you please share what soap you use and why? Many thanks in advance!
