De Bethune Demonstrates R¨¦sonique High-Frequency Escapement Breakthrough
For the past several years, De Bethune has focused its research efforts on developing super-high-frequency escapements. Currently, most escapements operate at 18,000 to 36,000 vph (2.5 to 5 Hz). In 2006, De Bethune demonstrated an experimental 72,000 vph (10 Hz) silicon escapement. Their latest efforts involve engineers, watchmakers, and a physicist, all working to develop a next-gen escapement powered by non-mechanical forces.As De Bethune explains in its latest press release, taking traditional mechanical escapements beyond 10 Hz is not feasible due to reliability issues arising out of mechanical resistance and basic wear-and-tear problems.To advance the science of mechanical timekeeping, De Bethune is employing some non-traditional forces, namely synchronization between an acoustic resonator and a magnetic escapement rotor, operating in a mechanical watch. De Bethune has dubbed its discovery Horological R¨¦sonique, and it is making its research available to the watchmaking community

Hello, After wondering for some time who and where to ask about watches I decided that here might be a good option. I am looking for a watch that is not of a high price( not over 400 - 500$ ) and is preferably Swiss made. I really like Omega, Rolex etc. yet as I said currently I cannot afford one of these so I am probably looking for a Tissot or Candino perhaps. I am not quite well informed about these brands( or any other ) and would like to ask you for any information that might be of good use. Any other brands which fall into that price frame are welcome. As you see I prefer steel cases, sapphire glass maybe and a tougher look; quartz movement is good for me. Yet for me durability is most important. How have you been Savvi w/your collection or in this hobby??Wanting to hear your creative ideas, along with your experiences as a watch enthusiast!I've been a watch enthusiast since 1990 and am lucky enough to have obtained a luxury piece or 2 along the way. Am not flush with money so my fine watch collection will never go beyond 1-3 pieces. However, I still want to play the game as I acquire/rotate and trade. I typically hold on to a piece anywhere from 5-10 yrs. but have now (I think/hope) found 1 keeper among my current 2.* I think Savvi Formal wear is on to something...they know prom/weddings are special occasions but many don't hold onto that tux. Rental car Co's./Car manufacturers same thing...have used them for necessity or Saturday play time. I've borrowed/loaned watches to/from a relative for us to have a new/fun experience. Also, have had my AD take pics of dream watches on my wrist. I'd be thrilled to rent a Rolex... seriously...just kidding. ** Please share ways you have k
