Pershing, Foch and Kitchener Post WWI Trench Watch Watch Ad ! ! ! ! ! ! !
I just had to share this with you guys ! ! !I received an e-mail yesterday from a gentleman debating what I was calling an Elgin "Blackjack" Pershing Trench Watch due to the case the movement was housed within. The debate was that I have a Pershing housed in a 14k yellow gold filled trench watch case and that I called it a "Blackjack" Pershing. We sent a couple e-mails back and forth about the issue. To the best of my knowledge the black Elgin "Star Dial" trench watches started out as a "jobber" watch and were not fully assembled by Elgin during WWI. These were first available in 1917 when the United States entered WWI with General Pershing leading our Doughboys. I am basing this information on the earliest date stamp that I have ever seen on the back of a Pershing dial which was 11-17 for November of 1917. You would go to a watchmaker's shop and pick out your dial, movement, case and band and the watchmaker would put it all together for you. These style of trench watch were affectiona

World timers - are they still useful?
I think the Patek world timers are great looking watches, with an artistic and well executed complication, but with countries changing their timezones it's becoming increasingly less useful.First it was Moscow, and today i read that Spain is considering moving its clocks back an hour to GMT. When you factor in the inconsitent observances of DST, I'm happy to report i'm no longer tempted...Curious how others feel. Does anyone buy these for their useful complication, or it is simply about the aesthetic?

Possible discount on 5712's?
I am going to order one monday from the Paris boutique, was wondering if a discount was a possible thing or if it's no use to mention it?Since in many boutiques, Panerai for example, they look at you when you ask for one as if you were crazy, if it's the same thing with PP better to avoid than to get the cold shower answer: Non Monsieur, Patek philippe does not do discounts, with that special tone of voice, where you have the impression the guy is thinking you are buying a 20K + watch and you want a discount? How very cheap of you¡­Went there just one time they were quite courteous, since there was nobody we talked about watches with the salesman and I tried a few, quite nice, whereas in some boutiques the experience was terrible, again Panerai for example, you feel like a homeless who came in to ask for a few bucks by the way they talk to you, I don't know in the US but here some boutiques and AD's are awful whereas some are great.The worse is in Ukraine where I live, in luxury watch

Nothing like a Panerai
About 15 years ago, I was leafing through a Magazine and saw a model wearing a Panerai Radiomir. I had no idea at the time what it was, but I was absolutely smitten with this watch.Fast forward, I have owned about a half dozen Panerai, and currently own 3.Panerai experienced some wild fanfare several years ago, and much of that has cooled. Many of the older classics are highly sought after, and prices have come back to a more realistic and obtainable level. I tend to not follow the pack, so for me, this recent softening of the market is just fine. I really would like to pick up some classics like a 009, 201A, etc etcAnyways, to this day, as much as I enjoy Rolex and many other brands, nothing gives the feeling of a Panerai.Enjoy your weekend!
