At worn&wound we've long been fascinated by watches that were designed specifically for individual sporting events. This is part of a series on these unique timepieces.Yacht timers ¨C also referred to as regatta timers, yachting chronographs, or sailing watches ¨C are watches specially designed and made for the countdown to the start of a sailing race. As you can imagine, starting a race on water, with entrants powered by the wind, is not as easy as lining up on a grid, Formula 1 style, or lined up like sprinters at a track meet, waiting for the starting gun. As we just saw in the recent America's Cup races in San Francisco, the yachts (we use the term loosely in the case of the America's Cup boats) are already at speed as they approach the starting line. The trick for the skipper is to NOT cross the starting line before the starting gun goes off. If they do, they're penalized quite heavily (how and how much depends on the rules in effect for the specific race).photo by Daniel HallSo

So, I know many here are OK with dial refinishingI'm just curious about opinions case replating? Yes/No, or does it depend on the watch?

Some of us are more active than others.My question is for the active guys and gals. Where do you draw the line on what you wear while engaged sport activities like surfing, snorkling, rock climbing, Jogging, Bicycling, Kyaking, Canoeing etc.?Do your wear your best watches (Submariner/PO/ seamaster)? Do you wear your mid-range sport watches? Do you wear an $8.99 Walmart special?

does the 116610LN¡¯s abundance ever get to you?
I¡¯m going to be getting a black submariner date when I graduate in a few months (BBA in finance from an accredited NYC school) and as I walk through midtown, I see everyone else has one too. Even my dad has the same watch. I can¡¯t help but think when I start work in the field, many people I¡¯ll work with will also have the same watch. Is this conventional thinking for the first time rolex owner? However, I assume that once I get it, I won¡¯t really care Can anyone who wears a 116610LN chime in? :)
