Old book new watch
I first posted on this fantastic forum in January. My wife had bought me a new sub date for Xmass but the "credit card" guarantee that came watch was for an other model. You guys were very helpfull pointing out that the AD had obviously made a mistake. To cut this short; The AD tried to get a replacement as the original could not be found. Rolex refused to issue one ( yes even to a very long standing AD) and I swapped my Z series for a M today. By the John H you were right about the RRR being discreet. Anyway thanks boys and girls for being a great crowd. Pic of the new watch and one of my old books below.

Before you say it, I know there are other strap material options like ostrich, buffalo, and even chicken skin - but let's stick to the 3 most common options. New to vintage watches and just bought a Gruen Precision
I am completely new to vintage watches (and really new to mechanical watches in general). I bought the Donald de Carle book "Practical Watch Repairing" and decided I wanted to buy some inexpensive watches to open and possibly work on, so I just bought these two on sale at a local antique market.100_2453.jpg100_2457.jpgBut before I open anything up and possibly risk breaking something, I want to make sure that I didn't stumble upon a diamond in the rough. (I have no intention of breaking anything and will be careful, but I don't want to learn with something too valuable). Can anyone tell me about the Gruen in these pictures? It's a cool watch and the movement seems to be in great shape. I'm thinking about trying to clean it up and use it as a dress watch.Thanks,Anthony

Potentially dumb questions about the Datejust 41
Hey everyone, 1st off, I just recently joined this forum and I'm impressed with the caliber of decorum/courtesy/helpfulness here. Who am I? Basically a kid in his mid-40's who has been a long-time Submariner fanatic. My question is kinda odd so please bear with me... I never took a liking to the DJ until the new SS DJ 41 debuted at Basel last year. Since then it's been on my drool list; it seems my taste is evolving, either that or I'm just finally getting old (ha!). The thing holding me back is whether or not it's wearable with really casual outfits: T-shirt, jeans or shorts. I'm talking REALLY casual, I never - and I mean never dress up. I rarely wear collared shirts or polos. Any feedback would be appreciated. That damn blue dial haunts my dreams. If I may throw in a second question, jubillee vs oyster bracelet? Once again, I'm worried the jubilee might bee too dressy with super casual wear, but I could be wrong. I know all of this is subjective, but please indulge me, thanks.
