Just got back from Hawaii...thought I'd toss these two photos out here and say Aloha . Mahalo.

Got my old Seiko back from service...
My 8 year old Seiko SKA039 came back from servicing today. After the trouble I went to sending it, I was a bit shocked when it came back in a jiffy-bag (bubble-wrap lined envelope)! I had used an old hard drive box complete with sponge/foam at the base and top, with bubble-wrap in between around the watch. I sent it by insured special delivery too. Okay, it was only worth ¡ê200 in 2000 but still wouldn't want to lose it. But the Seiko service centre sent it back by recorded delivery (no insurance AFAIK) and in a jiffy bag, where it could rattle around inside or get trapped between other heavy packages. Is that normal??!Apart from this though, the service was quite fast. They send you a letter confirming they have received it, with a userID and password for their web-site. You can log in and view the status of the job. The letter was dated 11th June, and I got the watch back today on the 18th. Who invented the winding mechanism by movement of a rotor?Some say it has invented by the watchmaker Abraham Louis Perrelet from Le Locle in about 1770.Other historians attribute the invention to the young watchmaker Hubert Sarton born on November 3, 1748 in what is now the Belgian town Li¨¨ge. Monsters - old versus new?
Seiko Monsters (1st gen.) seem to be pretty affordable these days. Other than hacking and winding is there any quality difference between 1st and 2nd? How long do you have to shake a first generation to give it a good start for the day, assuming you have let it sit long enough to stop? I personally don't care whether a watch hacks, although I understand why people do. Actually, I should say that in a casual/dive watch I don't care much if it hacks. On a nicer, more elegant watch (i.e. a more expensive watch) it is a must. I do expect more if I pay more. The short version of my question is whether there is any actual difference in the quality and durability between the Gen. 1 and Gen. 2. I've seen some deals on Gen. 1's that have really tempted me, but the price difference is still far less than $100.00.So, opinions please!P.S. I don't have a real preference between the two as far as cosmetics go, but the Gen. 2's do have more options...
