Panerai PAM170 wrist watches news:
Although Baume & Mercier is best known for its more affordable offerings, the brand is not limited to basic entry-level watches. At SIHH 2014, Baume & Mercier introduced its first tourbillon wristwatch, the Clifton 1892 Flying Tourbillon, combining the clean style of the other Clifton watches with a more exclusive complication. The name is a nod to the historic Baume & Mercier tourbillon pocket watch that served as inspiration and the watch really does bring something unexpected to the Clifton line-up. Here's a closer look at this horological curve ball.?Baume & Mercier first introduced the Clifton collection last year. The idea was to use a simple mid-century aesthetic to create highly-wearable and well-priced watches that appeal to those looking for something vintage-inspired. The most complicated watch from the inaugural collection was a triple calendar?with moonphase and this year saw both a chronograph and a retrograde date added to the mix. 2 OF 16 But, the most com
I am looking to buy a fun vintage (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s,) chronograph. While I know a bit about 1920s American watches by Hamilton, Illinois, Elgin and Gruen, I really know very little about later (mostly European) chronos. I am not looking for a upper-end watch, but rather something mid-priced, hopefully with the same sort of Valjoux (or other) movements that the big boys used preferably in a 18K, 14K, or stainless case. With that in mind, what are your suggestions for those I should consider AND those that I should avoid? THANKS IN ADVANCE!Regards,Rick
This isn't an Invicta bashing thread. But the brand often causes me to think about things, which hurts my head.Invicta sells about 1.5 million watches a year. Rolex about 1 million, Omega slightly less. And then there's Seiko, which sells a huge number of watches though I don't have production figures. Now it seems to me - without hard data - Invicta generates far more complaints on its pieces than do other mass produced name brands. So my question is: Is this due to a higher failure/defect rate or is it merely that there are more Invicta fans than, say, Rolex or Oris etc. backers on the watch forums? Or are Rolex buyers, for example, less likely to be "WIS" (ie most are consumers as opposed to horologists) or less likely to have the time or inclination to post on the Web?Any thoughts, gents?
