Got lucky on the bay the other day and won a nice square Benrus Calendar watch. Overall, it is in pretty good shape. The dial is decent, with a few minor blemishes. The minute hand seems to have black paint on the tip, which I can't seem to remove and there is one small nick on the side of the case which penetrated the 10K gold filling. The only thing I had to do to the watch is remove 60 years of accumulated gunk that built up in every crease. The square case is 25mm across and 35mm corner to corner. Size wise, it really seems to wear the same as its 30mm round cousin. The functions all work perfectly and it seems to run fine. The movement is the Benrus Model CK 2 17 jewel mechanism. From what I can find, the CK 2 model is the predecessor of the CE 13 version which powers the round case version I have. Both are based off the ETA 900 movement. One difference I found between the CK 2 and later CE 13 model is that the latter has a quick date set feature (you push in the crown to adva
I'm looking to purchase my first Rolex and am drawn to the Milgauss for a variety of reasons even though it is not usually the most popular choice especially as a first Rolex watch. I was fortunate enough that my local AD had both the blue and black dial in stock, so I was able to compare the two. I'm still debating between blue or black dial, but am slightly leaning towards the black dial GV. This is where my question comes in. What are your thoughts on the original style black dial GV with the dual color lume vs. the new style black dial GV with the single color lume. Also, does anyone happen to have seen both and have an opinion on brightness and longevity of each? Finally, I realize that the dual-color lume would require buying second hand as it is no longer made. I'm guessing that since it is pushing 10 years old, it would be due for a servicing immediately upon buying unless I was fortunate enough to find one that just got serviced? Any difference in buying M/V/G/Random serial?
So after much deliberation and what not I went out and bought wifey a watch she loves. She has a 26mm DJ and wanted something a bit bigger. Do you think I overdid it? She always says you can't go wrong with diamonds I didn't remember to take a photo of it until after the wonderful woman at the AD wrapped it up so here's the photo from my weeks of browsing around. So lucky to have an amazing AD that wrapped it all nice and after that I explained that I was going to put it in another bigger box and wrap that one to throw wifey off the scent. After all the rolex green wrapping paper and fantastic ribbons would have given it away. Without missing a beat she went off into the back and got bubble wrap and a bigger box! I said no it's okay it'll look too good if you wrap it again it has to look like I did it so she laughed and said ok I'll do it the way my husband would So awesome I can't wait until Christmas I don't even care what my wife got me I just want to see her face
