Seiko SNN237 wrist watches news:
This thread could have been called a 'fascinating find' because one never knows what you may turn up while researching timepieces.To-day a very pleasant young lady, came into the museum library, looking for advice on a wristwatch, some of you may know that for a 'non' member there is only a very small charge to use the facilities (free if you paid for museum). There you can use reference books or indeed gain help from the curators.Being a wristwatch question I was asked in this case to see if I could help. Well the watch was a very nice automatic Girard Perregaux with date, I initially dated it mid 50 or 60s. On opening the watch I could see it was 18 kt gold and had the Poincon De Maitre (responsibility mark) of the case maker. Good sign. Now the movement was a 'Gyromatic 39' (39 for 39 Jewels) patented in 1958.The Gyromatic 39 automatic watch, features a record number of 39 functional jewels, with a new concept in self winding movements. The key feature of the 'Gyromatic 39' invent
I am posting this for a friend. He owns a very interesting Mido in coral/rose/pink gold with a very unusual dial marked 1939 World's Fair. Has anyone ever seen or heard of one of these before? Evidently Mido participated in the Fair, and the company was shown located in the watch pavilion on the Fair map. Beyond that, we know little. Thanks in advance for your help!Regards,Rick

Hello all, I have been looking far a wide, learning as much as I can about pateks in general. My collection so far has been rolexes. I am trying to understand what makes patek so great in many of your eyes? I mean, they are at a higher price point, and made in less numbers, but are the materials used better, or are the complications better? I guess i'm having trouble understanding there greatness as compared to rolexes. I feel people always say they are better but I don't hear why, other than subjective opinion. Thanks for the education!
I thought this might be interesting to know and read. In 2005 a Foundation of Haute Horlogerie (FHH) was founded in Geneva. The FHH was founded in autumn 2005 by Audemars Piguet, Girard-Perregaux and the Richemont Group. The Foundation is committed to the needs of the historical heritage of Haute Horlogerie. Its assignment is to emphasize the art and skill of their craft through intensive public relations and to develop solutions for industry-wide problems such as the lack of young people or product piracy.Reasons why Rolex is not part of this are propably very simple. Rolex is not haute horlogerie in Swiss mind, it is everyday allday watch. Other reason might be that fee¡¯s of memberships in company unions are mostly based on turnover and volume. Rolex being bigger than all the other members together, it does not make sense to join and pay over half of the total fees. Here is a link:https://.hautehorlogerie.org/en/
