In October of 2014, Patek Philippe presented a collection of pieces that the world had been waiting 25 years to see. It was Patek who in 1989 launched the very concept of commemorative watches with its 150th anniversary collection and who today still garners more attention than anyone else in the world of haute horlogerie. We have already shown you the basics of what comprises the Patek 175 collection (see here, here, here, and here) but today we will go hands-on with all the pieces, as well as break down a bit more about what this collection may or may not mean long-term. Hamilton Boulton - sub-second dial design query
Hello,Vintage Hamilton newbie here and loving every minute of it. I have recently procured the pictured Boulton and have a question with regards to the type of sub-second dial. You will note that the sub dial is of a rectangular design with every 10 seconds marked and is not sunk. The hand also extends backwards a little bit. I have never seen a Boulton with this style of sub second dial before (or find any on the internet) and was wondering if anybody can provide any history to this?Was this dial a limited production version or was it always available but not as popular as the circular sunken style? Personally I love the style and think it compliments the shape of the case nicely. It also provides a contrast to my other Boulton which has the more common sub second dial. The condition of this watch is nice overall and I managed to get hold of it at a reasonable price - lovely to wear. A Treasured Patek ¨C Stolen Long Ago ¨C Can Archive Records be Retrieved?
My father-in-law Mike bought a simple manual wind Patek while traveling in Switzerland with his wife in the 1950s. My wife, then of school age, remembers the pride with which her dad displayed his new Patek after his return home. Mike wore that Patek for years and he was still wearing it daily in the early 2000s. I doubt that his Patek was ever serviced. Sadly, Mike¡¯s treasured Patek was stolen in about 2004, a year before Mike¡¯s death. My wife and I were clueless about fine timepieces and we had no idea at the time that the watch may have been registered in the Patek archives.I have only a vague recollection of Mike¡¯s watch but would guess it was a member of the Calatrava 96-series. I wonder if it would be possible to find a record of Mike¡¯s watch in the Patek archives. And, although we would be unable to claim the watch today, it would be interesting to learn if Patek has serviced Mike¡¯s watch in recent years.Can the Patek archives be searched with only the original watch own
