Alpina Celebrates Sebring Partnership With 12 Hours of Sebring Automatic Chrono GMT
After a successful cooperation in 2009, Alpina Gen¨¨ve and Sebring International Raceway will unite again this year for the 58th edition of the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring race with Alpina serving as Official Timekeeper for the event, scheduled for March 17-20 at Sebring International Raceway in Florida. To celebrate the partnership, Alpina will introduce a new limited edition: the Alpina 12 Hours of Sebring Automatic Chrono GMT. This timepiece is also the first edition within the new Alpina Racing Collection. With a generous diameter of 47mm, the matte black stainless steel watch features a black dial with red and silver elements. The raised white and luminous indexes ensure visibility, even during the nighttime hours of the race. The chronograph features a 12-hour counter in the lower half of the dial. To highlight this feature, a subtle red ¡®12¡¯ symbolizes the finish line. The watch also shows time and date, and it offers a GMT function. Both front and back crystals are sapphire.To

And before you suggest a winder, let me just say that for the same money I could buy a nice, reliable quartz watch.Automatic Movements are over-rated. They are clunky, expensive to maintain and, let's face it, inaccurate.Well autos and mechanicals are works of art, you say.Art is in the eye of the beholder. And in truth, a quartz movement is just as artistic and creative as an auto.Well, Boscoe, you can't oggle an Edox date/quartz movement (the world's slimmest) through a skeleton back.True enough. But I can't oggle the COSC certified 2892 Breitling Wings, Corum Grande Date or new Edox (I like the brand). Or the 2824 in my Revue Thommen Wall Street. Or the movement in a Rolex Oyster Perp. I am very disillusioned at the moment with Omega
I posted a while back, excited that my new speedmaster (2 sub dial 2011 version on Alligator strap) was due in to my AD in a day or 2. Well that was around 3-4 weeks ago and still no watch. I phone constantly to find out the latest news of it's arrival only now to be told I am 13th on a list and it could be December.However the last 2 weekends I have travelled to London to visit 2 Omega Boutiques:- Old Bond Street and Regent Street and whilst there Harrods watch dept and low and behold they not only have one Speedmaster but at least 2 of them that I have physically seen. Why Does Omega insist on giving all the new watches to Boutiques (and Harrods, which is not a Boutique) to be just sitting in safes and display units when watch collectors like myself with outstanding orders for them cannot get one? I'd love to know what you guys think and perhaps you shed some light on this for me. Thanks

Got a call today that they have a no date sub in, which i had expressed in interest in, a couple of months or so ago, that 'd like to add one at some point, going to have a look tomorrow, but had said to myself no more this year unless its the sea dweller or daytona!!Will power isn't my strong point.
