Last week, the menswear tradeshow Pitti Uomo descended upon Florence for the 86th time. But if I were a young watch enthusiast who stretched his budget for a loosely tailored Liverano & Liverano bespoke suit for the event (a difficult, but necessary choice), I'd want to make sure that I was still able to put something on my wrist that embodied a certain easy cool without appearing too contrived. OK all.. If you were buying one Rolex diver, and only one, which would you buy & why? Your choice is the Submariner Date or Sea-Dweller. These watches are very similar in look. To the layman, they're virtually identical (I know, we know better though ). But, which do you prefer???Do you prefer the 'classic Rolex' look of the Sub Date & the cyclops on the crystal or the cleaner, though thicker & heavier, look of the Sea-Dweller? Illinois Atlantic"Plus" 2-tone
Tom started a thread the other day on the Illinois Atlantic Enameled called "What's the skinny on this Illinois". With this in mind, here is another rather rare variation of the Atlantic. As discussed, the Atlantic was a case from the generic period, and as such it could just as easily contain a Elgin, Waltham or Illinois movement and dial. That said, I've seen I think 3 of this larger 2-tone Atlantic "Plus" (this is the term that Fred Friedberg has used to describe this variation), and all of them have contained Illinois movements and original dials, so I think it might have been an exclusive variation intended for (or perhaps even cased by) Illinois. The beveled bezel in combination with the beveled extended center piece looks great together.This variation is THE vintage watch for someone who prefers the size of a large modern watch, because it is HUGE!
