Alpina Celebrates Sebring Partnership With 12 Hours of Sebring Automatic Chrono GMT
After a successful cooperation in 2009, Alpina Gen¨¨ve and Sebring International Raceway will unite again this year for the 58th edition of the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring race with Alpina serving as Official Timekeeper for the event, scheduled for March 17-20 at Sebring International Raceway in Florida. To celebrate the partnership, Alpina will introduce a new limited edition: the Alpina 12 Hours of Sebring Automatic Chrono GMT. This timepiece is also the first edition within the new Alpina Racing Collection. With a generous diameter of 47mm, the matte black stainless steel watch features a black dial with red and silver elements. The raised white and luminous indexes ensure visibility, even during the nighttime hours of the race. The chronograph features a 12-hour counter in the lower half of the dial. Why do we wear them?? A rant!
Tonight I am wearing my Planet Ocean.I was looking at my collection and spotted this and decided to wear it on the other wrist to give it some much needed attention.The Fendi is really a handsome timepiece with an ETA 2824 and a screw down crown (though only rated for a 50m W/R)In comparing the look of these two watches I began to think about what a watch is or should be.Should a watch compliment the wrist,dominate the wrist, or just be an instrument for telling time in a way that is asthetically pleasing to the wearer?The Fendi is only(?) 36 mm in diameter and that is plenty big to see and tell the time (it worked for wrists of all sizes for many years with no complaints)The Planet Ocean is ,at 45 mm, much larger and is a wrist "dominator" but seems to make sense since it is a "dive" style watch and a diver needs to have a mega readable watch.The only watches I see as really having a purpose for being BIG are divers and pilot watches.At what point do watches become attention grabbers?

Ok, pulled the trigger and got the XL 8500 with the orange stitching for 4595 plus $75 for silver warranty for total of 7 years on the watch. Everything was packaged professionally and arrived as promised. I have no complaints for anyone who is worried. The sales lady from the mall offered it to me for $5K but she had to ship it out of state and expressed that I MUST PURCHASE IT FROM AN AUTHORIZED DEALER and I'd be crazy not to. But, another member who I met prior to purchasing gave me some good advice and said with such high quality watches and an online business thats been so established the risk should be small. If I ever have to send it in, I'll be happy to provide follow-up feedback. My only complaint is I couldn't get the merchant to budge on the price.

Currently struggling deciding between the Aquanaut 5167A on rubber and the Royal Oak 40th Anniversary blue dial 15202. All input, suggestions, personal preferences, etc. is appreciated!I am looking for a watch that can be worn everyday, is comfortable, dress up/down, and will retain its value well.The only other watch I currently own is Rolex Milgauss GV.
