Coverage of the first model, the most complicated one: Radiomir 1940 with equation of time, deserved separate coverage and can be found in a separate post. The remaining model iterations constitute three Panerai Luminor Submersible watches, one Panerai Radiomir, and one special novel reissue. First, three new models of the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 with flyback chronograph function. These maintain the large 47mm case size that somehow still wears small due to short lugs. Being built in titanium reduces the weight and so does using a flexible rubber caoutchouc strap. Restoration or Transformation - Please Don't Pass Me By.
You all know my views on 'restoration'!I am fully 'right wing'. And always, always try to leave a timepiece visually as is, or how it left the factory with any natural deterioration. That is part of the 'provenance' of a timepiece or indeed any antique.Restoration should be their to save a piece never to modify or improve it to what it had been.A 'curator' from the Latin curare meaning to "take care", and that job is to manage or oversee a collection or items. That is how I see myself, someone there to 'take care' of timepieces.But to-day, I took a vintage timepiece, a lovely circa 1930 HEUER (Before Tag-HEUER) Chronograph and restored no, transformed it's original but sadly distressed case into lovely original condition re-gold plated.Why? Just came across this Breitling, in the back of the safe, which I haven't seen in years! I recall that I purchased it new (on a whim) around 1994/1995, while in Canada.Fast forward to today, when again, I came across it in the safe. My wife spotted it, and now wants to wear it, so I wound it up, set it, and on her wrist it sits! Any information about this would be greatly appreciated. What's the story with the crown looking to be steel, while the pushers look to be gold?Where would I look for a Breitling replacement leather strap, and what should I look to pay?
