Tissot T0484172705103 wrist watches news:
On June 23, 1972, at Paris’s Ritz Hotel, the Comit¨¦ de France awarded the rare and coveted Prestige de la France award to Swiss watch manufacture Vacheron Constantin. As the first Swiss watch brand to receive this distinction, Vacheron launched a distinctive, asymmetrical timepiece, now referred to as the 1972. Now, to celebrate the opening of its Paris boutique (located at 2 Rue de la Paix, not far from the Ritz), the brand releases a new version of that famous wristwatch. Like the original 1972 model, the new 1972 Prestige has an asymmetrical case, here made of polished white gold, that follows the proportions of the golden section. (For example, the dimension of the longest side of the case, divided by the length of the sapphire crystal on the opposite side, equals 1.618, the same proportion that appears in some of the world’s greatest architectural icons, such as the Greek Parthenon and Le Corbusier’s Modulor.) I just picked up this Elgin. I don't know much about these things. It was shinny, looked in decent condition (last service mark 1984) and cheap. The movement , 554, looks very clean. 1945 from data
We recently received a phone call from a client who wanted to pick up a couple of our Herald (distressed buffalo) straps for a modification project. Mike went on to explain that he likes to buy pre-made straps and modify them to his liking, by changing/adding stitching and tweaking the leather. It's a given that people will change the buckle on a strap to best match the watch case finish, but we had never really seen in-depth modifications done to off the shelf straps (custom, made from scratch straps not included). Mike promised he would supply us with pictures of the finished project, and he came through. This is the strap that he started with:Distressed brown buffalo, unstitched, with the sewn-in, flat GPF Mod-Dep buckle.Mike created some high- and low-lights on the leather by oiling and buffing the leather. He added stitching by the lugs with a nice and thick tan waxed thread. And to top it all off, he reshaped and curved the sewn-in GPF buckle. We love the finished product so much,
Snapped this pic headed to a black tie event last weekend. If anyone is considering a Patek 24 for their wife/girlfriend, I highly recommend it. My wife loves hers.
Been poking around for more info on the 4161 movement. Seems hard to come by. Would love to know more about the technical bits of this one, beyond the marketing hyperbole (36,000 hours to develop, etc etc).Anyone seen anything out there?
