Most of you may have known this stuff, but I found it a really cool article.Remarkable clocks and watches: the first - and only - watch on the moonSince 1969 Omega has been able to promote its Speedmaster chronograph as the "first watch on the moon." NASA had chosen the Swiss-made timekeeper for all its astronauts four years earlier, so it was natural that Buzz Aldrin should have been wearing it when he took his momentous step onto the lunar surface. Before NASA made its selection, the Speedmaster and its rivals were subjected to rigorous testing: simmered for hours at a temperature of 93 degrees Celsius (199¡ãF), then immediately frozen at –18 (–0.5¡ãF), left in pure oxygen for two days, struck, compressed, decompressed, vibratedThe Speedmaster was the only one to emerge well within the allowed deviation of 5 seconds per day. I have been looking for something to replace my G-Shock as my hiking/outdoor watch because I don't wear it often enough to remember how to set it, and it's a pain to pull out the manual every time I need to. I came across what looks like a good deal on two new Sectors. Both are quartz analog chronographs, one with alarm. They both have sapphire crystals, one is on a leather strap and the other a stainless bracelet. I was able to get both for right around $200 (that's for both, not $200 each). I am not too worried about whether they are mediocre, decent, or better watches since their intended use is for when they might get scratched up or dinged around a bit. Most of the areas my wife and I hike are rocky, so the possibility of scratches/dings/etc. is very real. I actually like the way they look quite a bit, which is a definite bonus. It'll be nice to wear a watch that I like while hiking, yet not really worry about babying it too much. One has a sand colored dial, and I anticipate it w
