This week, vintage watches are back in full force. In this Bring A Loupe you will find some heavy hitters, starting with a coveted Rolex "Pre-Daytona" with a black dial. Also expect to see an outstanding Heuer Skipper, an original Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic, and an unusual Type 20 from an unexpected source. Finally, a great Universal Geneve Tri-Compax just came back on eBay, but maybe not for the better. This is your Bring A Loupe for March 25, 2016. A Rolex 'Pre-Daytona' Reference 6238 With Coveted Black Dial 1 OF 8 The reference 6238 is often considered as the starting point of the Daytona line, as it displayed the modern-looking dials that can then be found in the first Daytona, the reference 6239. Over the weekend I was at my friends house and we started discussing watches. He goes into the other room and comes out with an old hamilton form the 30s or 40s that his grandfather gave him. He doesn't get to wear it because the back doesn't stay on, but it did give me the chance to look at the movement. anyways, the watch has a rectangular shape and it has a domed hesalite crystal similar to the speedy and boy does it look amazing even at a slight angle. I think I may have to seek out a pre loved 3572.50 so I can still get the display back. Are there still alot of these speedies out there? I don't know when these were produced nor have I started looking for them. My tax return was much better than I expected, so maybe if I found one and price is right I can convince the misses to let me use a few dollars for a purchase.Have a good week, everyone
What do you think? The watch is a F series and comes from a established shop that deals with pre-owned watches. One can never be too sure...what do you think?
Saw this in one of my magazines - a collaboration between Bovet and Italian car designer Pininfarina. Mighty cool. Yours for about $280,000.
