Tutima Begins Deliveries of Its Hommage Minute Repeater
In summer 2011, Germany-based Tutima, known chiefly for its modestly priced pilots’ watches, unveiled a watch-world first: the first minute repeater wristwatch whose entire mechanism was built entirely in the German watchmaking town of Glash¨¹tte. As of the beginning of this year, the company announced, deliveries of the eagerly awaited timepiece have finally begun.Tutima, a company that traces its history back to the 1920s, spent three years developing the movement for the watch, Hommage Caliber 800, incorporating several elements distinctive to Glash¨¹tte watchmaking, such as a three-quarter plate and engraved balance cock (here, with a G Clef to indicate the watch’s melodious chimes). Since the watch’s introduction nearly two years ago, Tutima has made a few small, mostly aesthetic changes. One of the best things about Doxa watches is that they don't change. There is a whole collection of "SUB something" watches that have designs from what feels like the 1960s or 1970s - that remain largely unchanged today. Ever since Clive Cussler learned about the brand at a dive store he worked in and immortalized it in his writing, Doxa timepieces have been a bit more than just diving instruments.There have been attempts to modernize the look of the brand as well as of the core dive watch collection. I think it is almost amusing when people discuss Doxa's non-dive pieces (which aren't half bad). should i get a watch winder because
i was wondering should i get a watch winder because i wont be wearing my bc3 to work to save it from damage . so i will probably wear it 3 days a week . the main reason i am considering a winder is because of the screw down crown , i dont want to damage it ?

Winging it on Ebay brings home an unusual little Elgin.
The seller couldn't open the case so I took a flyer on this Elgin based on the front and back pics and a description. "Pre 30's wristwatch mens or women." $8.50 FTW.Suprise. Genuine Elgin marked case.Movement in case ring. Crystal just drops into case. The back is a bugger to get threaded in right.Movement is a 8/0 grade 519 from 1934. Clean and running.Not much left of the minute track. Needs new hands and a wash. Notice the stem tube attaches to the movement ring and mushrooms out to accommodate a large ID crown.The jury is still out on the men's/women's question. Looks like it could be a man's model using a woven leather strap like the Hamilton Donavan.Any comments? Anyone recognize the model? Joel
