Ever since I held my grandfather¡¯s minute repeater as a child I have been a cousin to crows, blackbirds and ravens. I have coveted shiny morsels for my larder, namely gold watches. Ten years ago I was picking my way through the crowd on Madison Avenue looking for a suitable golden crumb. There was a shop called the End of Time opposite the Whitney Museum. Incoming - no more new watches in 2013 (pic heavy).
This will be my last watch purchase of 2013..Honestly!Pics first and then a few words as to why I bought it:Now I have looked at this watch before on photographs and didn't like four things on first inspection.1) The lugs (there is a version with tradition lug attachments I believe, which at first I thought I preferred)2) The Arabic numeral version3) The red number 12 on the Arabic numeral version4) The way the numbers were crowded out by the sub dials on the Arabic numeral versionSo why have I bought a version of this watch - The Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph 180th Anniversary Limited Edition?Firstly I bought the version with the Roman numerals as opposed to the Arabic markers and I didn't have the same impression about the dial, the looks or the crowding. Secondly the lugs, which I know some of you will really not like, which is totally fair as I didn't on the pictures I saw. However I can't tell you how comfortable this watch is on the wrist.
