Vintage Hamilton crown types
I need some advice on crowns used in pre war Hamiltons that use the 6/0 movements with a Tap 8 stem. I would like to know what the types are called and where to get them ...if they are still around ??I thinks mainly there are two types A) the ones that are used on the models with a tube attacthed on the case like the "Gladsone & Hastings" and B) the ones that intergrade with the bezel and back of the case like the Dixon & Putnam, they have a sort of sleve that fits over the stem .......can anyone tell me the names and where I can buy these crowns ??Cheers Peter

What Are You Working On Today ? ? ? ? ?
Today I am working on a 1917 Elgin General "Blackjack" Pershing Offset Trench Watch. Just finished cleaning the hands and then applied white enamel paint to the hour, minute and sub second hand. Setting the hour and minute hands on a toothpick works very well, your free hand holds the toothpick steady while applying the white enamel. As for the sub-second hand, use a worthless drop movement and install the sub hand then apply the white enamel. Start in and work your way out with one fluid stroke. You want a nice thin layer, if you apply too thick the hands might rub together when installed on the watch face! The white enamel that I use takes about 24 hours to fully dry so this project will go no further until tomorrow afternoon. During that time I will spend time polishing the offset crown trench watch case and timing out a few other movements. So, I know that a lot of you guys work on your own watches what did you work on today? Post some pictures!

Damasko DC66 - now this looks good...
Just got in a very nice pilot strap for the DC66 which I think works well. It's 5mm thick and lovely quality buffalo leather. I'm actually going to have to sell this one and order another as I ordered one a wee bit long for my wrist (150/80) but boy does it suit this watch?

can I swim with my 5712?
This might seem a stupid question to some but having spent a long time on this forum I seem to have gotten the idea from what I've read that a 60m water resistance was basically just good for washing your watch with water or calmly being in the pool or ocean but by no means enough to swim with it, maybe because if you swim energetically enough it will put water pressure on your watch that it can't stand...Personally I always thought that even if a WR is only 10m you can basically go 10 meters under water, have I mistaken and can I swim, I mean swim normally not deep diving but not just dipping in the water, with my 5712 or if I want to swim with one of my PP's is it better to take my 5726 which has a 120m resistance?Since I am going to I've in Thailand soon and I hate lying on the beach in the sun but love to swim do I need either to leave my 5712 at home or have the 5726 or can I without any worries go for a swim if I want to and happen to be wearing my 5712? Again I have no intention
