Recommendation for Authorized Dealer with Inventory of Perpetual and Annual Calendar
After a long 6 year project, I am purchasing watches as gifts for 12 colleagues who worked from the beginning with me on this project. 4 of the 12 have indicated a preference for a Patek. I would like to purchase 3 Perpetuals and 1 Annual Calendar Patek watches. I prefer the 5159, 5140, 5396 and 5146. I have found a couple watches here and there with Authorized Dealers, but I would prefer to purchase from one authorized dealer, if possible. This goal might be impossible given the relative rarity of these watches. Does anyone have a recommendation of authorized dealers to contact who might have an inventory of these watches? I am only interested in purchasing from an authorized dealer because I want each recipient to receive a warranty card with their name already filled out. These watches are being purchased as gifts for people who will keep them for a lifetime, not to flip or for speculation. Omega SMP 300m: Real or Fake
I'm wondering if I made a mistake: I bought a Seamaster Pro 300m 2250.80.00 off eBay. What wasn't advertised was there were no boxes, cards, manual, nada - just the watch. I've had one before and it looks real, but a couple of things came up as red flags. first it was advertised to fit an 8 wrist (I have a 7 1/2 and it's tight). This could be an honest mistake, so I'll that one go. Then I notice that after wearing it for a day, it was stopping when I took it off and let it sit for a few hours. It's supposed to have a 44 hour power reserve. Then I started looking at the back and there is no serial number. This could have been filed off as grey market dealers were doing that for a while.No red dot but I don't know if they were on this model. I don't recall from the one I used to own (that came from Watchmaxx and had everything but the warranty card). Also, the little imprinted diver helmet or whatever is not there. With so many posts about Rolex as investments I wanted to share a good rule of thumb that I use myself. I feel this applies to 99% of situationsIt¡¯s a mass produced watch. It will go down in value as soon as you buy it. Give or take a little, estimate 25%-30% drop in value from msrp depending on the watch. The great part about a Rolex is that you can cash out of your ¡°investment¡± easier than with other watch brands. However, YOU still need to sell it. Remember, on the forums you¡¯re competing with trusted sellers, etc so you¡¯ll have to price below them to compete and you¡¯ll likely have a bit more wear on your piece then they normally do on theirs. Over the long-term, used watch prices will follow the current msrp trends so maybe in about 10 years your watch may actually be selling in the used market for around your original purchase price (msrp). In addition, you¡¯d have to factor in insurance costs which for my 116710 is $68 per year. At 10 years of ownership I¡¯ve paid $680 in addition
