Breitling B13358L2/A700 wrist watches news:
Contributed by Mark Carson of Individual DesignIf you've ever seen a watch with a slide rule bezel and haven't known how to use it, we have a little guide for you.As many of you know, watches with slide rule functions have 2 logarithmic scales (the outer of which turns). In contrast, a tachymeter scale is hyperbolic and typically has numbers that run in from infinity down to sixty. Both slide rule and tachymeter watches use non-linear scales. Let's look a bit at a generic scale.NOTE - the images shown are a bit rough as they are not photographs of an actual circular slide rule. This scale might not look like all slide rule bezels, but there are analog indicators on most slide rule bezels so that the same functions can be used. The following examples show some common uses of a circular slide rule:Calculating a 15% tip (I know, I'm cheap) - just the tip amount in this case:The goal: Calculate 15% of $20.00.Set the outer ring's "1.5" (for 15%) over the inner ring index ("1").Find "2" (for
I still can't believe I stumbled across a bnib V serial. I definitely consider myself lucky & fortunate to own the very last serial of its production. Thanks for looking!IMG_1600.JPGIMG_1601.JPGIMG_1608.jpgIMG_1607.JPG
VINTAGE 1955 OMEGA AUTOMATIC WATCH. The inside movement reads Omega Co swiss seventeen 17 jewels unadjusted and there is also a number 14877326. Also on the movement under the Omega symbol it says 500. The inside case reads Omega Watch Co Ross GX-6267 0186250. As you can see this was given as a gift for Christmas in 1958 which is inscribed on the back of the case. The watch runs and keeps time. I believe it to be gold plated but I can't seem to find a mark so I will let you be the judge and sell it as is. I will also leave a little history on the Omega 500 watch."Automatic 470/490 and 500, 1955Designer: Edouard Schwaar Description: These were the first gents calibres with an OMEGA rotor: the 470-25 mm with centre seconds, the 490 -28 mm with small seconds which replaced the famous 28.10 mm with bankings launched in 1943, as well as the 500 mm, with centre seconds, with a rotor that was more powerful than the oscillating weight of its predecessor, the 28.10 mm, the chronometer versions
A must read for the serious collector?Yes most definitively. The Swiss author Fabrice Gu¨¦roux has done it again. He published his first book on how to spot fake watches in 2006.In March 2010, Fabrice and his publisher, brought out the revised (I dare say totally new) edition. Reading it one can feel the love the author has for genuine watches. For those collecting watches the book is a treasure trove of information and highlights what to look out for. It also maps out likely future routes the fakers take from a quality point of view.As the book is very well illustrated with tons of high resolution pictures it lends itself to be taken along to watch fairs where vintage watches are traded, too.It can be purchased online for those into wanting to avoid the pitfalls of fakes.I bought mine at Baselworld, read through it in one night and since than it has found a happy home on my desk to be consulted whenever I feel like adding a new member to my watch collection.
Hey TRF, I know this is a Rolex forum, but I've been checking out an early 70s Omega chronograph I really like and I have a question about one I found. Per the attached photo, I have highlighted a couple of areas where it looks like there is perhaps old lume flaking? I've seen the same thing in pics of other watches of the same model, but I'm not sure exactly what this is. Any feedback is appreciated and thank you in advance.
