REFLECTIONS ON BASELWORLD 08 - A crystal ball into the future?
With 2008 being an Olympic year and given Omega's exceptional achievement of being the long-standing, official timekeeper of The Games, Bienne can be excused for unveiling what appears to be many Olympic commemoratives at this year's fair. Of the other issues being 3 Seamasters, 4 Speedmasters, 1 Museum Edition, 2 De Villes and 1 Constellation, there is essentially only one new watch that is destined for the long term. I refer of course to the Aqua Terra lest we forget that the De Ville Hour Vision Annual Calendar is a limited series. Omega could be using the limited series status as a test bed to gauge demand of course in which case a long term model will be produced.Let me state that my postulations are solely based on what is contained in the press kit.My thoughts are that for 2008, Omega has chosen to announce limited series watches since by around 2010, most of the catalog it is believed, will be powered by the 8500/8501. A Few Photos (as promised)...
As introduction, I'm uploading photos of some of my watches. The first has a Seamaster cal. 591 with a great textured dial, then an f300 Connie that I keep in working condition, a LeCoultre Futurematic, and a Bulova 23j. The second is an assortment that are probably recognizable, except for the 80's [Ixi:z] (Ricoh) that I bought new and always loved for the design. The Tag Formula 1 I bought new as well and recently had Tag restore it. The luminous dial ages pretty fast. I just got an All Guard that I posted to the Longines Forum. I'm starting to like the Longines watches from the 40's - 60's more. Basically I go for nice designs that also have good movements, and I love vintage on a budget! I have a few morea Hamilton Chadwick with the 770 movement, a square Longines 8LN, and an early Mido bumper. David

In house or not?
Is a watch having in house movement a plus, a must or you don't care?Some of the most seemed and valuable watches don't have in house movements, most highly collectable Pams don't and just have ETA, the AP Jumbo has a JLC base movement, the Patek 5970 and 5070 have Lemania base movements, it doesn't mean that in house the movement will be better, some great watches have non in house movements.So for me if a watch's movement is not in house it's absolutely not a deal breaker, but I do prefer one which does have it as for me an in-house movement means that the manufacture has reached a certain level in the horological art and is capable of making their own watches from A to Z without any outside help.I know that usually when people start to be interested in watches if they go for pieces 5K and up it's obligatory to have the in house movement, but more experienced watch lovers understand that it's just a part of the process and that even if the brands get movements from other companies th
