This latest addition to De Bethune’s DB25 family is fitted with a new hand-wound mechanical caliber with a six-day power reserve, based on the DB2105 movement. The silicon balance wheel, used for the first time in a production movement, is the product of research undertaken since 2002 focused on improving the oscillator. Together with the balance spring with the De Bethune flat terminal curve, the two form an oscillating assembly that marks a new step forward in the quest for isochronism, a precisely uniform rate. The 44.6mm drum case in rose or gray gold houses a silvered gold dial with hand-applied guilloch¨¦. The famous De Bethune spherical moon appears through the dial against a sky that is flame-blued by hand and dotted with gold stars. The moon consists of two hemispheres, one in flame-blued steel and one in platinum, and it rotates on its own axis, reproducing exactly what you would see in the sky. The moon-phase display is accurate to within 1 day in 122 years. The technica
The most interesting, or I should say curious, introduction from Rolex this year is the Air King reference 116900. First, I never really expected to see an Air-King at all ever again after the new Oyster Perpetual was brought out last year, but here it is. And on top of that, the Air-King is back in, frankly, a semi-foreign form as a 40 mm, anti-magnetic aviator's watch with a multi-color logo. We'll get to that, so let's first talk about the brand new Explorer, which is a really similar watch, also introduced this year, that, in my opinion, will be often compared to the new Air-King. The Rolex Explorer Reference 214270 1 OF 4 The new Explorer features new luminous applications and longer, wider hands for better legibility. So the new Explorer reference 214270, as introduced here on HODINKEE last week, is very much the same as the outgoing iteration of the same reference with its Oyster Perpetual case at 39 mm, 100-meter water resistance, and in-house caliber
Hi all,I am about to graduate with an MBA in four short weeks and as a gift to myself I want to get an Omega watch.I have narrowed down the choices to 2 distinct choices, the PO and Seamaster divers. The model numbers are 2201.50.00/2201.51.00 OR 2220.80.00. I was initially sold on the blue diver and then went to the PO line and now in the middle. If you have any of the watches, can you tell me what you like, dislike, etc. If you have both, which one do you wear most often? like better, etc. Also, what is the best way to get the best deal? I have been to stores like Ben Bridge and Jareds and they always whisper to me that they will give me an additional 15% off, but I figure with the economic crisis, I should be able to get more especially at the end of next month. Thanks in advance. Mike
