Bulova Accutron Watch Ad Pitch Opens MAD MEN Season 7
Season 7 (the final season) of the television show MAD MEN debuted tonight with the reading of a pitch for the Accutron wrist watch. It was only a matter of time before the subject of watch advertising came up in the series and there is perhaps no better example than the original Bulova Accutron. As the original electronic tuning fork watch, it offered a unique upgrade over mechanical watches but existed in a pre-quartz movement age. The pitch, as described in a monologue in the opening scene of season 7 episode 1 titled "Time Zones," is perhaps one of the best watch advertisements of all time.It was in the year 1960 that Bulova unveiled the Accutron range of watches to the public. Well, my significant birthday finally arrived - and so the safe was opened and my darling wife finally allowed me access to the fabulous present she bought for me now almost 6 months ago in preparation for today!It doesn't get much better than this! Enjoying a fabulous trip with my wonderful wife and an amazing new piece to add to the collection - a collection which is actually diminishing as I pare down to just a few really special pieces - a Messi, this wonderful new 15400, an Explorer II , and a Tanatlium Panerai. Not a bad collection I think, and a good place to stick. I'm both a lucky and a happy man.Happy New Year to all!

5711 vs ap ro?
Dear TRF members.I apologize for creating a thread that has been discussed previously.Whilst trying to add another piece, I find myself really confused between the legendary Patek 5711 blue dial, and the Audemars piguet jumbo 15202.Both stunning as most will agree, and the price difference is not an issue as I am already spending quiet a large amount on either.I really love the dial of he 5711, coupled with its rarity, but also like the presence of the RO.Another thing the Patek has, which may sound stupid, is the fact that it is a Patek.I don't mean to say AP is not a great brand, we all know how incredible they are, and I definitely don't think they offer less in terms of quality, but I can't help but feel that Patek is a different league, and one that many aspire to achieve.Which would you pick? New 42 mm Explorer vs. 40 mm
I am considering an used Explorer II just because it is not the typical Sub style.What do new owners think of the new 42 mm case dia and BWG9 lume vs. The older 40 mm design? I do like the wider hands and as bit more prominent orange 24 hr hand on the newer Explorer. I believe the lug width is now 21 mm ? And the lug to lug is 49 or 50 mm? The 2mm difference might not make too much difference to a smallerwrist wearer?Thanks so much
