Breguet Charity Auction Is Underway
As time winds down to the New Year, Breguet is preparing to auction a masterpiece: the Breguet Classique 5157. The auction benefits the New York Philharmonic¡¯s School Partnership Program. Bidding began at 12:01 a.m. EST yesterday and closes close at midnight January 15th, 2011. The watch is being auctioned through the eBay Giving Works site. The 18-carat yellow gold timepiece is the same model as the one worn by New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert. It is a 38mm, extra-thin Classique wristwatch featuring a self-winding movement and a silvered gold dial hand-engraved on a rose engine. It also has a sapphire caseback and is water-resistant up to 30m.Breguet, is expanding its cultural ties in the U.S. The brand worked with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2007, and most recently sponsored the New York Philharmonic’s Opening Night Gala. Apple Hires Marc Newson, iWatch Smartwatch Watches Likely To Be Designed With His Help
Big news today as Apple has announced its official hiring of Australian designer Marc Newson, who will work directly with Apple's head of design (Sir) Jonathan Ive. My understanding is that Newson will retain his ability to work with third party clients, but don't expect him to be designing watches for anyone else. Apple hasn't specified what Marc Newson will be working on specifically, but I believe it is safe to say that his first major projects will be on the iWatch (or iTime, or whatever Apple decides to call its upcoming smartwatch device).Of course, the big question everyone has is whether or not Apple will announce a smartwatch device next week during their annual new product announcement conference. Many people seem very confident that Apple will release a smartwatch this year or in early 2015, but I am not so convinced. Tried on the new Raven Airwolf today
I had a chance to try on the new Raven Airwolf today. You know, this one...More info on the model is locatedhere.Overall it was very nice. I loved the crisp black dial and liked the black accents on the pushers. The black bezel is a rubberized type material (I don't think it's actually rubber though, just that kind of feeling) and not a hard plastic. The writing on the bezel is really crisp. At 43mm it's of course a large wearing watch. Overall VERY NICE! A pretty drastic change in direction from the other Breitling lines, which IMO is exactly what they wanted. If you saw it on the street I'd be surprised you'd recognize it as a Breitling, unless you already knew of the Raven's (and maybe not even then).The one I tried on had the standard all-the-same (no holes, no pattern, just plain rubber) rubber strap, which I didn't like as much as I like the Ocean racer strap. That was the only negative. Put the Ocean Racer on it & it would have been A+. Oh, and the deployant clasp
