Cartier Cartier 16730 wrist watches news:
One of the most exotic timepieces is a 1923 14k Eberhard fully hermetic. What makes it so exotic? Its fantastic looks? The way it opens? The fact it was (believed) to be the first patented (1921) fully hermetic timepiece. Well all of those plus the fact it is the ONLY 'cushion' shaped hermetic known? It was always believed that Jean Finger was first to patent this design in 1921, we as Horologists have always thought that, and indeed Wilsdorf liked it so much, he copied the patent and released an identical (but round) design in 1923.But during my studying it the NAWCC library I was astounded to find a 1918 advert by Gruen with this IDENTICAL design.A bit more research showed that Gruen had applied for this patent in 1918 and it was granted 1919, some 2 yrs PRIOR to Jean Finger, and 3 yrs prior to Wilsdorf. So ANOTHER American first.Amazing Horology. Here is my 14k 1923 Eberhard - Note cushion shape:and the Gruen advert 1918 (patent applied 1918/granted1919)Still a very exotic pieceRe
Anybody like the new brown dial Royal Oak Offshore?
I recently purchased 5167r from an AD, after years of being a firm Rolex fan.I was in my local AD and few weeks back enjoying a coffee and looking at a few PP pieces, one of which was a 5167A on a bracelet which tbh whilst I'd have gone for the strap version in a heartbeat, the bracelet did little for me and I'd rather not spend the extra ¡ê for the bracelet and then have to pay out again on the rubber strap and deployant clasp. I was considering it but... as we were discussing the store manager popped over to say hi and show me a 5167r they had taken in part exchange just that morning!I was hooked...Loved the dial colour and the chocolate brown strap of the R compared to the steel version.Over the course of the next day or so we struck the deal and after a trade and some cash I picked it up just before Christmas. The strap is taking some getting used to (mainly from the many years of wearing bracelets) Am also quite conscious of how flashy it looks being the R (but maybe thats just me)A
After months of searching and trying on anything and everything when it comes to ACs and PCs the battle was between these two..the 5205 is great and art deco'ish but i've never been too keen on the bezel and the concave casethe winner, the 5146G creme dial, a more classic Patek and at 39mm it is made for my wrist. brown or black strap, it is a killer dress watch, whereas the 5205 is more smart casuallove them or loathe them, the 3, 6 and 9 work very well on the creme dial, and the chapter ring is the dog's bollocks to look aton order, now just a question of when the email appears in my inbox from DavidSW...
The color and the scale.. just phenomenal..The 26/26 with some padding is a great fit for Rads in general:The look... great for fall or winter I think! On the wrist... yeah baby! ABP does give the 190 a nice pop! Hope you enjoyed!
