Appealing Watches With Sharp Black And Steel Contrasts
Watch makers can have a good time playing with colors and materials. A typical favorite among watch designers is sharp transitions from one material, color or texture to another. This often yields in an interesting look appealing to the eye due to the constant contrasts. Lights appear lighter, and dark colors appear deeper. This is mostly due to the human eye, which seems to be drawn to such complexities of form.A particular favorite of mine is the contrast between matte black and polished steel. Hello Forum Members! Just bought my very first Panerai (PAM00512) and received delivery this past Tuesday. Absolutely in love with the watch for all the reasons Nigel UK has written in his posts. I¡¯ve included a few pictures below.Being new to Panerai, I was wondering if forum members could help me out with answers a few questions...1) I have the original box, manuals, hang tags, and warrantee form with the watch which was purchased in January 2016 here in the US. What I find curious is that the watch is a early Q series example (<100 out of 2000) and has a rubber strap and deployment buckle. Does anyone know if the rubber strap is the original that came with the 512? I looked on the Panerai site and they do not sell this strap for the 1940 Radimir nor have I seen any pcitures I have seen so far. 2) Another curious item is the deployment buckle. Per the serial number and the Panerai labeling, it looks like a factory item to me. Has anyone seen this deployment buckle before?

First for me: Rolex stopped running...
In 30 years of wearing Rolex, I have never had one stop running. Some of you that know me, know that I have bought many project watches over the years and done restorations. Some were real beat up but still ran. My first Sub I wore daily and it was pretty thrashed but still kept good time over 12 years without a service. The bezel was bent, the crown broke, but she still kept good time.Reached into the winder this morning to grab my 16750 Polar which is a U serial from 1996/97 ish. She was not running. Reset time and date, gave a full wind, couple taps and shakes and nothing. She is toast. We had guessed that this watch had never been serviced, and she ran a little fast but still ran. Not complaining at all. I believe this watch ran for 20 continuous years without a service. Really a tribute to how well Rolex is made. Guess it is time for a complete service. Next time I go to the city I will drop it off to my buddy who is a CW21 and my go to WS.
