Buying first Rolex for my Husband need advice
Hi! I'm brand new to this forum, and brand new to the world of Rolexes. This week is my 10th wedding anniversary, and this year we've also celebrated the birth of our first child (a boy), so I thought a Rolex would be a nice gift for my husband who never buys anything for himself. I want to give him something special that he can pass on to his son one day.I've narrowed it down to a couple of vintage Oyster Perpetuals, but I need help deciding. (FYI, I'd love to get a vintage Submariner for him someday, but that's out of my price range now maybe for our second child!). Since I know next to nothing about these watches, I want to know if these are solid choices, and what i could possibly use as leverage when making an offer. SDDS height/thickness
I have been trying to find information on the web on the height/thickness of the SDDS, but only found a few guesses 16-17mm.However, if you look at attached picture downloaded from Rolex website - you can see that the 2 red lines I have added have the same length. And this would indicate a thickness of 43/2 = 21.5mm!I guess we'll just have to wait to somebody actually measuring the beast. And then I can decide if I want to upgrade from my SD...Remi

Noticing someone's watch...
Okay like most people here I guess, I can't help noticing other people's watches. I took my dad to see the family doctor today, & as he was listening to my dad's chest with his stethoscope, I am pretty sure it was a ss Daytona on his wrist (& given his probable income I doubt it was a fake). I'd like to have taken a closer look but I was too shy to say anything.

All,I was curious to everyone's thoughts/previous experiences with how the RRO non limited edition lines hold their value... Seeing that current pre-owned 42mm themes sell between 12.5k-18.5k usd do they usually go up in value over time? Would them being discontinued because of the new 2014 line coming out increase their future value or will it just be regarded as a old model with little demand like some of the older RO chronos and first ROO models?The piece I have in mind in particular is the Safari which would be put on a bracelet.Thank you in advance!
