Please forgive the long post. I have been following this forum for almost a year, and following other well-known watch forums for at least double that. But this is my first post (of any kind) and it is to tell my watch story and commemorate my first real watch--a new Rolex Explorer 214270. I have enjoyed watches since I was a boy, and growing up had several quartz watches, admired a vintage Cartier Tank that my grandfather owned, and even had an engraved pocket watch in high school (needless to say I marched to my own drumbeat!). But I never could justify spending a lot of money on a nice mechanical watch until I felt more settled in life--and besides there were degrees to obtain (music and, ultimately, law), studies abroad (twice), mountains to climb (Kilimanjaro)...watches, as much as I loved them, were not a priority. Then, 8 years ago, as I am picking up my wife's engagement ring, the AD let's me have a little fun of my own--trying on some watches, including some amazing A. Lange &
