Can someone explain to us why most smart watches are so terribly ugly? "Connected" electronic watch makers can sure learn something from the Swiss watch industry. We also discuss the watches-dealer trip to Frederique Constant to build timepieces, and what it means to have emotion for mechanical watches. We answer the age-old question: Who spends the most time laughing about watches and the watch industry?? A bunch of you e-mailed me yesterday asking me to talk about the Richard Mille watch that tennis player Rafael Nadal is now wearing. That's never happened before - but since the mainstream media is all over the "weird" story, I figured I should mention that I did cover the topic on Luxistwatches-dealer (where I also write daily) - sorry, you need to cover two websites now. You can see my (and only my) daily Luxistwatches-dealer articles right here. I initially discussed the Richard Mille RM027 Nadal watch here. The media is all over the Nadal story for two reasons. First, it is unusual for a tennis player to wear a watch during matches. It is well known that wearing a watch when peak agility and performance is required is usually a bad idea. Hell, I even take my watch off to type. Second, the watch costs $525,000. To most people, that concept blows their friggin' minds. It would blow my mind as well if I wasn't so detached from prices. I actually found myself yesterday saying to a frien
Pretty simple, actually. Take the Day-Date, and between 5 and 7 o'clock insert the Month spelled out.Potential problems: if 3155 is used will watch be too thick? How to do triple click Presumably stem redisign
Within the past ten days I acquired a JLC Master Control Date. It was made solely for their Asian market, circa 2011. It is 99% new. Came with all boxes, books, hang tag and filled warranty card. I stress the Asian market because the dial is 37 mm diameter. The face is unlike their watch for N.A. and Europe also circa 2011. It has three numerals on a white silver dial: 6, 9, 12. There is no 3, as that is the position for the date window. Unlike it's occidental counterpart, there are no markers (track) for individual minutes, only arrow shaped markers at 5 minute intervals. In essence the dial is clean and crisp. The hour and minute hands are highly polished dagger and the second hand is blue steel. It is an automatic movement, JLC in-house ca. 889. The strap showed no sign of wear, with a stainless steel deployant folding clasp. The case is very highly polished SS with a solid caseback containing the JLC gold medallion for 1000 hours of completed watch body/movement testing.
I am talking about new watches not vintages....
