Sotheby¡¯s autumn sale of Important Watches on Sunday November 13 in Geneva will be spearheaded by the ¡°Clarin Mustad 1518¡± – a unique Patek Philippe reference 1518 perpetual calendar chronograph that is estimated to sell for between $890,000 and $1,330,000. The sale also includes two Rolex wristwatches that belonged to leaders of the post-World War II era. The star lot of the sale is the Patek Philippe ¡°Clarin Mustad 1518¡± ©\ a unique reference 1518 perpetual calendar chronograph. Made on special request in 1944, this watch with attached 18K pink gold brick link bracelet, moon©\phases and French calendar on a specially made pink dial was dedicated to Clarin Mustad (1871©\1948), a Norwegian industrialist who contributed to the emergence of the car industry in Europe.Produced between 1941 and 1954, the Reference 1518 was the first perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch to be manufactured in a series by any firm in the world. Had the chance to try one on this weekMy first impression when i saw the pics from SIHH were WTF a Aquatimer because of the yellow inner ringBut i must say when i saw the watch and trying it on.. It isn't all that badThe weight is super comfortable and my favorite is the Ceramet bezel which is pretty much scratch free.I would have loved it in all black but you can't have it allAnyway here's the pics of it

Help idetifying a Breitling
This may be a long shot as I dont have any photos. In the film 51st State with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Carlyle, Jackson is seen wearing a Breitling just before he blows Meat Loaf up. Its been bugging me for years what type it was so any help would be great.Oh and its a very funny film by the wayregards M

Change of tide in supply?
In one of my local ADs windows yesterday,the following;Steel LN GMT IIBoth Polar and Black Explorer IIsTWO! Milgauss GVsBoth Black and Blue Bimetal SubsBimetal GMT (the black one,Not the new one )Bimetal black DaytonaI have not seen this selection all at once in a Yorkshire AD in a very long time.Not seen a steel GMT in an ADs window in over two years!Note these are all brand new and the AD in question doesn't put 'spoken for' watches in the window.Things have got that bad up 'ere' that even bimetal Subs and GMTs were a rare sight,is this a fluke or a sign that things are improving?Did not make a difference to me as it will be a few years before I consider whether I want another Rolex.Guess that is the result of buying my grail,two years in with my 18ct sub and honeymoon still isn't over

The Art of the Hunt
Longtime lurker here, suddenly with the ability to purchase a new Rolex. I was recently at my local AD and asked about any stainless sport models and from the back he brought out a new BLNR. I was overcome with joy, until I tried it on. It looked too small. I was deflated. I inquired about the SD43 and he politely informed me they do not have any and the waiting list was not taking additional names. I have very little experience with high end timepieces but I have tracked down some very elusive new cars with great success. My question is are there any techniques to finding your desired watch from an AD without just being lucky? My AD has 7 locations. Should I try asking at each location? I purchased a datejust for my wife's push present 3 years ago, so I do have a purchase history with them. Are there any AD's that might ship? I hate the fact this isn't an easy process but I know not to get discouraged. I really don't want to get one from a grey dealer. I know there is no real differen
