- I purchased this watch for my fiance and he loved it. He typically likes the brushed metal jewelry so this was perfect. The watch is beautiful in person, and I was very pleased when I picked it up after ordering it online.

Let's say you are related to a big time phony baloney politician and you didn't even know it. They've discovered and emptied out his Swiss and Caymen Islands accounts. Suddenly, you've inherited a billion dollars. If you could have 4 AND ONLY 4 watches, what would they be? I'll take a stab at it. (oh, just for fun, no one-offs-one-of-a-kind from a private watchmaker. Let's say production pieces only) Pics please!!Bovet 1822Jaquet Droz large second. It's not even that expensive. I started reading about how magnetic fields can affect mechanical watches! This seems more widespread than I ever imagined! I suspected for quite some time that a couple of my watches were running way too slow or fast because of this.Reading articles on servicing watches, one of the first things the watchmaker does is to use a compass to see if the watch is magnetized before making adjustments on a watch that's running too fast or slow!Article after article warns you about the magnetic dangers from things in your every day life! It's all around you, the airport, your home, everywhere you go.The other day, I took my compass and walked around the house. First I went to the area where most of my watches are kept. A hot bed! I couldn't believe that ordinary stuff on my night stand was a major threat to my watches! My Colt 1911 made the compass needle spin like a top! In the drawer, there were a few small hand tools, screw drivers, allen wrenches, same thing. These things were sitting right ne
Hello Patek aficionados,I have gradually migrated from Rolex discussion to this one after seeing great pictures of 5711 and 5167 by Puffy, dddreess, kilyung, brady, TimeOnHand and many others on this forum. I'm thinking it is time for me to acquire my first Patek . I have small collection of Rolexes - DeepSea and GMT IIc. I'm considering trading in the DS for something smaller and more understated. The three pieces that made the short list - PP 5711/1A, PP 5167A and AP 15400. As a lot of people here I have job where the watch can be scratched by the desk or my computer - nothing extreme. On the weekend we do a lot of family activities like skiing, ice skating, bike riding, swimming and such. I'm looking for watch that could do it all with me without needing to baby it.I have asked my wife for her opinion on the styles and she likes the 5167 best with 15400 closely second. I'm leaning towards 5711 for its timeless design. It is going to be my watch so the ultimate decision is with me. T
