IWC Aquatimer Automatic Vintage Collection

My Benrus collection, warning: kinda funky
So, I have been getting my watches back from my watch guy, and have started putting them in their slots for the trip back to California, for the coming spring and summer antique markets, and I find I have some nice Benruses gathered, .....nothing terribly valuable, but I like them .......First up a pair of rose gold-filled, with matching orginal bracelets, ( marked Benrus) and very similar indeed.....and I got them within a week of each other...they also run like champs....more than 40 hours on a wind......anyone have an idea how old they are,.....40s????I like this one (above) best cause of the cool deco numbers)then, here's a neat watch, that is close to impossible to photograph.....it's a lot better looking in person .....a weirdly metalic dial...........Now this one is still waiting for it's band, but the interesting thing about it is that the crystal is about 1/4 inch thick............now my favorite one, who has been around this site before, tada ! ......the balck and silver on

Seiko Stargate Blackout project # 2
A couple of weeks ago I did a project using the PVD version of the Seiko Stargate. This was done using a military dial. I liked the result but I found that the dial was too busy for me. Culprit the double minute markers and the fact that the numbers were too far from the edge of the chapter ring. My opinion of course and while I liked it I wanted it to look a little different. So I started a new research and decided to use a dial that did not have the minute markers so that I did not have to mess with the chapter ring etc. I opted for a SKX173 dial which is similar to the original Stargate one but does not have the chrome frame which I thought did not fit with the hands and the black of the case. After checking different hands I also opted for the original hour and minute hands from the Stargate but changed the seconds hand to one from the SKX007. Overall not a bad result. Checking it out more of course and will decide if a keeper or not. In the meantime I wanted to share some

Restore or not?
I was wondering what is the general view about restoring watches. I mean, if you have a old valuable watch do you think it is better to leave it alone (see the "Patina" thread) or do you try to restore to a condition closed to the original piece.I am doing these considerations because I always felt that I would not touch an old watch, if it is really valuable I might even doubt whether to do functional repairs or not, but then I looked at this Youtube video of the watchmaker Roger W. Smith presenting one of his pieces and he clearly states that many of his construction decisions are taken in order to make his pieces highly restoreable (does such a word exist?). At 2:05 minutes he clearly says that in many years time it will be possible to take one of his watches and to bring it to the original conditions, at which point I no longer know what to think. i dont know what it is but i can't use firefox and view this forum...everytime i try to view it crashes my browser...i ask this because i have zero problems on any other sites i view (has bill gates taken over this forum , haha)...sorry i posted this here but this is the only section of the site i read....thx for any feedback!!!

Feels like Christmas morning!!
Hello all here at TRF! I after a long visit to the Spa at the Henri Stern Watch Agency, my 5960P is now back at home and once again on my wrist. Although the service lasted over 8 month, they really did a superb job. Cosmetically it looks fantastic and there is a lot of piece of mind knowing that mechanically it is as good as new again.Anyway, here is a photo of the finished product!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399052682.839364.jpg
