Would you ever breave to open your watch?
I think i know the answer most of you will give, but regardless, we all have our reasons. I for one have no problem opening watches, as long as you have the right tools and are in a proper environment. Over the years I've acquired enough tools of high enough quality, that with a good course, I could possibly become a watch maker, I've been able to fix some small problems on older watches by myself! If you think you've got the dexterity/courage, really, I encourage you try it out. My incentive to learn how to open watches, remove movements, clean dials, crystals and what not, was the fact that the watchmakers here in Brazil (at least the ones I know) are good at fixing problems, but lack some of the equipment and attention detail that I (and i bet many of you) require from a serviceman. Since most of their customers could care less if they leave a small speck of dust on the dial when casing a watch, the cycle goes on. i was doing a little shopping today and talked the wife into stopping into a store that had some nice watches.saw the oris display and when the salesman came up i asked to see the Artelier Complication..beautiful looking watch, nice deployant strap and like nothing else in my simple collection....list price $1495.00 - asked for discount and they offered 25% right away bringing it to $1122.00.if anyone has any experience with this watch or the Oris 581, base ETA 2688/2671 movement i would appreciate any feedback.thanks

1st Patek Purchase - Duty to USA HELP
I've been working with an AD in the EU on purchasing my first Patek and am trying to figure out what the duty would be when sending to the US where I reside. I've read conflicting percentages on different threads in this forum and want to be sure because the difference could be in the thousands.I've used the duty import calculator online that Pitney Bowes has and have come up with two different numbers between the AD and I. The calculator is confusing if you're unfamiliar. His number is quite different from mine and it almost makes the purchase not worth it, however, the number I used makes it worthwhile with the FX and VAT back. Does anyone have any experience in shipping a watch to the US? Any advice is appreciated.
