G¨¦rald Genta Has Died at Age 80
G¨¦rald Genta, designer of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Patek Philippe Nautilus, IWC Ingenieur, Omega Constellation, Cartier Pasha, Bulgari Bulgari, and other icons of the modern era has passed away at age 80. Genta was born to Italian immigrant parents in Geneva in 1931. He launched his career as an independent watch designer in 1961, and in 1968 he designed the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse. As Lucien Trueb wrote for WatchTime in December, 2006, “A crowning moment came when Audemars Piguet commissioned him to design a sporty stainless steel wristwatch. Genta met for preliminary negotiations with Paul-Louis Audemars… and his son Jaques-Louis…. The elder Monsieur Audemars died before he could see Genta’s design for the Royal Oak, famously drawn in one overnight session in 1970. Oris Williams F1 Team Day Date Watch For 2010
Continuing their partnership with the Williams F1 team, Oris has released a new motor sport watch for 2010 that is likely the nicest yet when it comes to a watch made for Williams. This is at least the fourth watch to come from the partnership, and it looks really nice in mostly black with a technical looking blue trim. Oris is further refining the dial design, offering a fascinating, yet polished look.The case itself is 44mm wide in DLC black. Notice the thin blue line that extends around the periphery of the side of the case. It is a neat little detail helping the case of the watch to stand out. The colors are also of course those of the Williams team. The little blue line is actually rubber, and Oris says it acts like a bumper to protect the case (a bit). Though with the DLC coating, it shouldn't need as much protection. The case of course has the special hinged lugs that help the watch be really comfortable, and comfortable it most certainly is. I understand that one of the neat things about participating on forums on-line is that you don't have to divulge your identity. What I don't quite understand is why some/most people elect NOT to identify where are they from.We come from all corners of the world and have vastly different points of view on things. Some things are done quite different from one hemisphere of the earth versus another. We communicate via written words (and pictures) through this great forum, but I think we can actually understand each other much, much better if we know where each of us come from (or at least give us a hint).OK, off the soap box, just venting on a little pet peeve of mine that has been building up for a while. Moderators, I know this is not a watch topic, please delete or relocate as you please.

Explorer II ceramic - the next generation.
The photo below is a current Explorer II which I found whilst browsing eBay today, but due to the lighting in this photo the bezel is darker and if you squint a little you can see exactly what a ceramic Explorer II would look like and I must admit that it would be an absolutely gorgeous watch.What are your thoughts on this? I personally think people would go crazy for this, waiting lists would be in line with the other ss sport models. Just what the explorer 2 needs to boost sales. The Daytona had a 100% steel bezel and went to ceramic, with an option of black or white for the dial. So it¡¯s not entirely unrealistic to expect the explorer to follow the same path, especially considering that it too has black and white dials. Interested to hear your thoughts. Richard
